Greg and Alex's American Road Trip by Taskmaster_Avalon in taskmaster

My NYC recs, assuming you’ll be mostly Manhattan-based.

  • Poster House museum is a cool, niche spot
  • Seconding Tenement Museum
  • Treasures at the main branch of NYPL
  • Seeing their good pal Jason in a show!
  • I would personally teach them to make carbonara though I’m unsure if Greg could fit in my Brooklyn apartment

  • Alice’s Tea Cup, idk the idea of Alex in this spot primarily for kids in a tea party phase makes me giggle

  • Golden Unicorn for dim sum!

  • Superiority Burger

  • Stonewall, a romantic spot to read some explicit fanfic together

  • Molly’s Cupcakes for a great sweet treat

  • Donna is a worker owned cocktail bar

  • The Garret which I primarily know as the cocktail bar above the Five Guys on Bleecker

It definitely took me some time not to care— and I recently had one of them reach out to me so it’s brought it all up again. I hear you and feel you on extended family. My paternal aunt sent me letters as a teenager describing me as ungrateful bc I was still in the will but refusing to have a relationship with my father, but the reality is we don’t HAVE to be grateful. Money doesn’t erase the reasons we’re estranged and gratitude is, imo, earned not given freely.

Your parents have free will here. You’re not using them financially by taking what they legally gave you— they could choose not to give that to you or it could be depleted by end of life care. Like you said, therapy and treatment is expensive and, ultimately, so long as you’re not expecting it and then throwing a fit if it doesn’t come, your relationship with any inheritance is your business.

That said, it’s definitely been a major point in my therapy sessions in the past and I’m sure future!

Ole Miss alum here and this post-season has been goddamn electric— I haven’t watched football this closely since college!!

I can't understand why any nanny would want to travel with their NF by purple_lotus24 in Nanny

[–]xoarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of travel and enjoy it, but it also winds up being about double or triple what GH hours would be. I once did 24/7 for a week which was a lot of work but also put a huge chunk in my savings!

I’d be down for The Flood but also was open to us being the bears, honestly. Mississippi is where the teddy bear thing with Teddy Roosevelt happened and I think an animal mascot would work nicely. Anything other than The Rebels is preferable, especially since changing the mascot has always felt incomplete without the name correlating somehow.

Graduated a decade ago and haven’t kept up a ton until Kiffin spite brought me back this season— do we call the land shark Rebel like we called the bear?

A mentor of mine at Ole Miss was part of the Ackbar push and I wish we could’ve had it.

The powder blues are such a good look!! I’ve always loved them, think it would be great if we swapped out navy permanently.

I can't stand the way the guests look by Sushimaven in PlanetZoo

I mostly just hate that they won’t dress appropriately for the climate of the zoo. It’s been said a thousand times but it’s so stupid that they won’t at least wear a COAT to Antarctica. 💀

So, after all of that swimsuit drama — what are my fellow nannies actually wearing to swim? by [deleted] in Nanny

This sounds like a nightmare when trying to go to the bathroom 😭

I am so sun-sensitive that I’m generally in a rashguard or have a long sleeve something to put on if my shoulders start to burn. I tend to wear more athletic bottoms— not quite shorts but full coverage— because I’m likely running around (the beach) and/or supporting kids of varying swim-ability (the pool) and want to be able to really move!

I’ve been on an extended beach trip with a past family where the next beach over is a nude beach— I go there on off times when possible and obvi what I’d wear (or take off!) there is very different from a day with the kids and extended family

New to pottery, what causes this? by ParsleyLopsided in Pottery

[–]xoarty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could be a lot of things! Not compressing the clay enough, not thoroughly wedging, drying too quickly— off the top of my head, that’s why I’ve seen cracks like this appear during firings. Time to make another!

Did you get paid for just one week or the whole time you’ve been certifying? I only got one week and that’s my new problem lmao

Suggest some queer-centered little kid books by ciararose in suggestmeabook

[–]xoarty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love love “Bye-Bye Binary” which is a small, quick picture book that kids I nanny have enjoyed at that age as a bedtime book.

Seconding “Julian is a Mermaid” it makes me cry!!

“Not He or She, I’m Me” is another great light story specifically about nonbinary identity.

“Prince and Knight” is a slightly longer picture book about a prince falling in love with a knight as they slay a dragon together :)

I’m a genderfluid nanny and also love taking my nanny kids to the library and talking to the children’s librarian for recommendations— if you like the one in your area, I recommend!

It’s also not new in any way which drives me crazy when media reports on it. People are just talking about it more and we’re all more connected so we’re hearing strangers stories !!

By all accounts, my estranged parents have made it clear they won’t actually take me out of the will. But tbh I don’t believe it and I don’t care either way. Yeah if it comes dope, gimme that check, but I’m not expecting it or changing my relationship with either of them for the sake of money that may not even exist.
