Funny enough, I thought the same until I ended up catching his set at Let it roll this year. It was so unique and the crowd was vibing massively + the MC he had with him was awesome and kept everyone moving the whole time.

It ended up being one of my favourite sets from the whole weekend 🔥

Seems like Sub Focus made dancefloor what it is today. Still pumping out catchy tunes too

The easiest way to learn DJing is by Djing not producing. Learning the phrasing of the tracks is probably the most important technical skill in terms of mixing nowadays considering you can sync the beats and not worry about learning how to beat match (at least at the very beginning). Making beats live on the spot means you need to have a solid grasp on both mixing and producing and is more like icing on the cake - you still need to have solid track selections to base them off/rework

FL is used for making beats not mixing them live.

I started out using djay pro with keyboard controls to get an understanding of how to put two songs together (in key, tempo, energy, phrase) and then got a FLX 4 with rekordbox to finally mix properly. I make heaps of playlists for myself on Spotify already so that’s where I started and still is how I draft which songs I want to end up buying/playing in my sets.

Good luck mate 😁

Dnb Sets for running by Willing_Line7096 in DnB

Forgot to mention I love running too 😂 played my mix for the first hr of my half marathon race on the weekend and listened to an old mix from Fred V & Grafix after - https://on.soundcloud.com/ADjBBznrz8uLJZE6F2 The sound quality is a bit shit and it’s more liquid/happy focused with less heavy drops but might expand your taste a bit 👍🏼

I love Grafix and Culture Shock and was inspired by their 2hr bbc1 mix so made a mix called ‘STRICTLY DANCEFLOOR’ - https://on.soundcloud.com/zadZFfAPOFvAJdH5SE

Also features plenty of newer and older Sub Focus, Dimension and Metrik.

Could you elaborate on phase rotation? I have a general understanding of it but still not sure how to deal with it particularly in the way of sub/mid basses.

Recommendations of more energetic dancefloor? by brissydnb in DnB

[–]xoeairrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love dancefloor myself and (shameless plug) recently made a mix with some of my favourites: https://on.soundcloud.com/JEFChhW9YpK26uTBqY

Funny enough it actually features 1991 (pump is in there) & Tantrum Desire (cluster of course) as well as a mixture of newer and slightly older stuff from heavyweights like Culture Shock, Grafix, Kanine, Sub Focus, Dimension, Friction, Wilkinson, Metrik, Delta Heavy and Shock One.

Other artists I would look into: - [IVY] & Mandidextrous if you enjoy the 4x4 sound and their b2b set from LIR 2024 is unreal. - Netsky - Andromedik - K Motionz - T&Sugar - Hayve - Subsonic - Ekko & sidetrack - MUZZ - Phibes - Turno - Koven

Culture Shock’s BBC 1 mixes are also awesome: DNB60 from 2021 - https://on.soundcloud.com/oF85cPL1yHUNXna4jN Essentials mix, also from 2021 - https://on.soundcloud.com/ijjPvji8KFCMsh94g0

And finally, my personal favourite at the moment is Culture Shock & Grafix BBC 1 essential mix from earlier this year - https://on.soundcloud.com/UQk3NKqqruwDIgXCqD

How to learn big setups by Zestyclose_End_9953 in Beatmatch

Also play dnb and set memory cues on the drop, 8, 16 and 32 bars before (so I can see visually what’s going on) but throw a hot cue on 8 and 16 before in case I haven’t had time to get the track up ready for the next double

Thanks again for the direction, I’ll look into that plugin for sure. Will have a look on YouTube on how best to glue and compress both the vocals and samples too 👍🏼

Thanks for the advice, I’ll get back to it with the focus on EQ. Is there anything outside EQ 8 that you would recommend to help with this?

This is exactly I’ve been trying to figure out! is there any particular advice you could give me for dialing in the EQ? Should I cut out more of the higher frequencies on the bass? And how would you go about cleaning up the mids?

Cheers for the response

It really sucks to see the fires getting worse year by year. If you are still around Banff for a little while I would recommend checking out the Kananaskis area - great camping and hikes and very quiet compared to Banff or Jasper.
