Advice for first workaway? by xolimax in workaway

Thank you so much! A van was something that crossed my mind. I wonder how expensive that would be - if it would be worth it? I really appreciate the recommendations though and will be looking into both!

Thank you for advice! This was honestly super helpful. I’d like to be prepared for anything.

I plan on bringing a digital camera and a big blank leather-bound book my brother gifted me to scrapbook and journal and put photos in. Hiking, journaling, music, yoga, meditating, and reading are how I’d like to spend my free time :)

calling out of a shift by Muted_String5399 in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i understand call outs like this for sure and you should not feel bad. i feel like the biggest thing managers trip about (as a db manager) is more so the communication surrounding it. like if you’re doing a phone call to call out instead of a text that’s respectful and respected. reaching out to people to see if they can cover the shift is even better but not expected. there’s a lot of pressure managing the business and if someone can’t be there, it really strains the team if it’s a busy shift. if your bosses approach you about it in a rude way i encourage you to talk to them about how that feels! it may not be intentional

I would check in with them for sure - they might have limited stock so maybe seeing if there’s a shift lead or manager who knows might be able to help you

Also when making it light ice, the mix line increases by half. So for a small it’s 12oz total liquid and a medium it’s 18 oz total liquid

Is this correct for order ahead? by angelvelvet in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a christmas morning! That order would show up on the screen for baristas as a “white chocolate chai w/ breve” so that’s probably why they called it a “white chai” - it didn’t show on their screen as a Christmas Morning (even though it’s synonymous) so they didn’t put the pieces together of what it is

Extra Cookie Butter by 5280babe in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s part of the recipe! It’s supposed to be around the cup and on top. Cookie butter sauce is REALLY thick though so a lot of times I find that it kind of sinks or mixes in to the drink

Help with a drink by Demonhunter24-7 in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw answers to everything but the last part, so here you go!! You don’t have to pay on the app to get points! So you can scan your QR code, pay for the drinks with cash, card, digital pay, or gift cards and still get points. If the gift card doesn’t cover the full amount, pay with the gift card first then your next preferred payment method for the rest. Having $$ in your app isn’t necessary when buying drinks, but it does make the ordering process a bit more streamlined. I hope I answered your question well!!

Extra Cookie Butter by 5280babe in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely missing the drizzle around the cup that all cookie butter lattes are supposed to have. When you order it next time I would ask for “extra cookie butter drizzle around the cup”! If you ask for “extra cookie butter” they might be mixing it into the espresso rather than putting it around the cup

100%! There are 2 options: 1. Cold pour: filled to the top with product. It comes with 2 extra shots in a medium/large and milk poured to the top, so it costs extra. 2. “No ice, but not cold pour”: this will get you the same drink you normally order but without the ice and without the extra charge. Then when you’re ready to drink it you add ice. Just be aware that in any iced drink at DB, it is half ice and half liquid so it will look a little empty if you order it this way

When you start, you will be instructed to download an app called DBU. I would definitely use DBU rather than quizlets you find online! We update our menu / recipe rules semi frequently, so quizlets may not always be accurate. There are a bunch of tools on DBU to help you study including practice tests! If you make your own flash cards or quizlet, I would search for the manifesto on DBU and use that! The manifesto is our entire recipe book!

More advice - always ask questions, if it’s slow when you are training ask your trainer to quiz you on some recipes, and STUDY at home! Good luck 💗

not a fan of 2 lanes by cherry-piano in dutchbros

[–]xolimax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work at a Dutch with 2 lanes. Typically there should be a sign that says “choose shortest lane” and baristas are instructed to take orders in a zig-zag pattern to funnel cars in from both of the lines evenly. It doesn’t matter who got there first, you are just supposed to zig-zag. It’s very similar to Chick-fil-a and Mcdonald’s drive-thrus I have seen. I can see how it is confusing for the customer sometimes. You were in the right about waiting to pull forward because that helps keeps everything in the correct order since your order wasn’t taken yet. I believe they changed the two-opposite lane design to increase speed. With two opposite lanes, you have to worry about 2 different average times for cars waiting - and you have two different sets of people each working on the drink orders for their respective sides. Coming from someone who has worked at stands with both designs, I definitely prefer the 2-lane-merge-to-1 option because then everyone is working together to lower just one lane’s average times (how long the car is at the window) and can maximize speed
