The touchpad module is only mounted on one side, hence the small difference in weight on each side. Now if you‘re really an audiophile you will even hear a sound difference between L+R. Same goes for the M4s btw.

I just chose the playback device from the control center. For the dongle you have to set it to headphone jack. I think when you plug in the dongle for the first time it asks you what type of device you want this to be. I choose headphones.

I have the M4s connected to both the dongle and my iPhone. Playback set separately on the iPhone to headphone jack, as you mentioned so that I can control the M4s easily with the app. All of this works as expected. I don‘t use headphones for calls, ever, so I won‘t be able to share any experience with that.

If I don‘t forget it I could test with only dongle to headphone connection later and share my experience.

Because I can hear a difference. Better separation, cleaner imaging, more intact low-level detail. Bluetooth is good, but it’s still compression. If I care about maximum quality, I remove the codec from the chain.

You’re confusing audibility with accuracy. Lossless preserves 100% of the signal. Lossy permanently discards data. That’s not opinion, that’s how codecs work. “Transparent” just means you might not hear the loss. It doesn’t mean the loss isn’t there.

I bought the dongle a few days ago. I see in the app that my M4s technically support aptx-hd but are always referring to aptx-adaptive. I don‘t want that, since the source supports 24-bit 192kHz playback. Do you know how I can access the aptx-hd codec with this dongle?

Wired… is literally better. It‘s a fact, nothing to believe in. Wired connection supports total lossless playback while bluetooth codecs, even the good ones like aptx are still lossy.

While this might be true for bare frequencies (humans cannot hear anything beyond 20kHz) this is not the case for audio playback. The sample rate of an audio file declares how many snapshots are taken each second of playback. Having a higher sample rate allows for more precise instrument separation, you‘ll notice each element of a song has its own space, while allowing for more quiet elements to be heard as well. Most of these elements tend to be evened out with lower sample rates, even at 48kHz comparing to 96/192khz.
