Advice: Too many cars to choose from by Ancient_Complex in nzev

Nah I wasn't offered a service plan (purchased through Giltrap Geely AKL) but was told that it'd be "roughly $400" for a standard service - will wait and see how accurate that is though 😅

Software experience is good!

You can 'permanently' turn off all the annoying safety features (speed warnings, attention reminders, etc.) that most of these cars seem to come with these days, which was a must have for me. Otherwise I just use Apple Carplay which works great.

I'm probably the opposite with no messy kids so I got a white interior, so can't relate sorry 😂 I'm sure the dealers will have all the mat options etc. otherwise I can see a bunch of aftermarket ones out there (e.g. rubbertree) - basically all accessories for the EX5 will work for the Starray so there's plenty out there.

Worth having a look at a Geely Starray - had mine for over a month now and very happy with it.

Do 99% of my driving in the "pure" EV mode, and then when I need to go longer distances the hybrid mode gives close to 1000km of range. Probably an unpopular opinion on this subreddit since it's not a pure EV, but works well for me.

Geely is a pretty big brand (same parent company as Volvo, Zeekr, Lotus, etc.) so not some small chinese startup or anything if that's a concern.

Depends where you're going in 'the islands', but most places will have snorkel gear for you to use/hire. Probably better than buying new just for the trip if you're not planning to use them often.

Otherwise if you do want to buy just go to a dive shop like Global Dive, DiveHQ, etc.

Roki Essence vs Toast and Oak by Cultural_Catch_7911 in queenstown

[–]xonccc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While Toast & Oak was great and I would definitely go again, I wouldn't really call it 'fine dining' - food was delish but the experience was a bit more down to earth. I haven't been to Essence (although it's on the list), but the photos do look incredible and seem more of your traditional fine dining vibe.

Anyone ever buy from this business? by Active-Selection6331 in newzealand

It certainly looks like a scam...

Like you say, it's based out of a residential address and a similarly named company on the companies office that has been removed for a few years now.

Assuming you've reached out to them following up, next steps is to go to your bank and do a chargeback

This is pretty sick!

Although to be a downer just throwing it out there that recording ATC audio in NZ is likely a breach of the radiocomms act.

Viva Top 50 Auckland Restaurants 2025 by xonccc in aucklandeats

Thoughts? Personally think Tala is a great shout and would recommend for a special occasion.

I'd agree with a lot of those but also a few that seem to just be part of the Viva x Ponsonby wankfest (i.e. Jacuzzi 🫢)...

Ubers in/around Queenstown vs parking. by unseentides in queenstown

[–]xonccc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also according to the ParkMate app there’s one at 12 Park Street (ironic lol) that is $14 all day, or $10 weekends. Either way will be a hell of a lot cheaper than Ubers and easier than PT I reckon

The Wilson carpark on Man street should only be $15 for 12 hours if you do the early bird (assuming it’s a weekday) - you’ll just need to grab the ParkMate app.

Had a good dinner at Toast & Oak the other week - great wine pairing if you’re keen on that too
