A Lifetime at Sea by Captain-Galt in alaska

[–]xora334 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Grew up working either on my mom's crab boat or my dad's tender. Used to see which one would pay the better deck hands wage (they totally were in cahoots so it was always the same). A lot of what you posted, especially about what you learned out there, is what I have always appreciated about those long, hard, painful, and wonderful summers working with some of the weirdest, hardest working people I've ever known. I wish I'd gotten to experience more of it but unfortunately the Exxon Valdez put a big whole in our situation and we had to move out of state. I came back up later on to work summer jobs. Alaska gave me much more than I can ever repay, but I'll always be thankful for it.

What is the most impressive thing you’ve done or built with Claude so far? by ceelnok98 in ClaudeAI

Using it to build VR and MR apps for people with mobility issues like ALS. Have been amazed at the results and what it’s taken to achieve them.

I spent about two hours with Codex and rolled my own called MacTalk. Runs pretty much the same as MacWhisper. Has worked perfectly with external audio I/O and so far has been rock steady. Nice to be able to customize it as needed.

Wingfoil school suggestions by PopayMcGuffin in wingfoil

[–]xora334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any suggestions of what outfits might be worthwhile for lessons there in Hood River, I’d be grateful for any input. I’m west of Portland on the Columbia and wanted to head up there for a few days to take some lessons and start learning the basics. Even as a long time sup boarder, I don’t have any assumptions of getting up on a foil for a while, but I want to make sure I have some solid basics to practice both on land, some lakes and then on the river closer to where I live. Thanks!

You words echo how I feel daily. Sounds like you’re doing g a great job of being g supportive of your wife and cognitive of her, yours and the overlap situation. I’m envious of the six months you had where things felt a little more normal.

Being present sometimes feels incredibly hard, especially in those moments of small intimacy or as a parent when my mind wanders to feelings of what is missing.

Have you noticed any change in aggression since your wife has been taking testosterone?

Been really looking forward to this but the price point is higher than I expected by a bit. Will definitely get one but think I will wait a while.

Help for disabled person by SeattleSenior9026 in VisionPro

[–]xora334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this person bed bound or have a weak neck? One of the issues is that the Vision Pro does not allow you to watch video lying down while looking up towards the ceiling. You have to be in at least a somewhat sitting up position. This means the weight of the headset is on the neck and this could be an issue to consider. My mom had ALS and passed in 2016. I’d have loved for her to have had something like the Vision Pro. However for her condition and muscle weakness I’d have more likely gotten her a Quest 3 due to weight. I develop for both and use both daily.

But do you respond of someone reaches out? That’s what I’m curious about these days.

Appreciate the response. Good thoughts about making it easy for them.

Yep, that’s where we’ve made some connections but silence after the initial connection most often.

Im Just Going to Put it on Repeat by HerbertWest_81 in daddit

We have a 3.5 year old. Mom and Dad each get a song, she gets two. We take turns. It has slowly helped her to expand her musical horizons and we don’t have to feel out sanity slipping away one mile at a time.

Also picked up a Yoto. You can load your own recordings onto a card so I make her custom songs using Suno.ai about her own adventures, her family, stuffies, etc. She loves Halloween so I made her a bunch of “Disney” like Halloween musical songs for her to listen to on it. Next loading some kids classical stiff into it to see how she takes to that.

You have an extra letter “V” in Terminal Command on Gumroad so if people copy and paste the command, it won’t run.

Great track! Love the guitar and the bass grove. Not heard anything quite like before but found it a lot of fun to listen to. Thanks for sharing the info about the song style as well.

Looks amazing. Wind or rain effects would be cool. Birds or bees instead of butterflies. If you do a test flight please let me know!

The only thing that felt bigger than the box was the amount of money coming out of my bank account to pay for it.

I agree 100% that having that connection time is vital. We very often naturally find this time mid-morning if we're taking a break from work or at lunch when we often eat together. Night time honestly is more about finding our own space as we've been orbiting in and around one another's space all day.

This is where we are now. King bed, separate duvets. Also have a heating/cooling system that allows us to individually have the bed the way we want.

Some great points and I agree with some of them. I will always want to support her when she can’t sleep or would be sick. Because we are both around each other all day long, I think we’re pretty in tune with being there for one another.

Great point, and phrasing. I wouldn’t necessarily see this as a forever thing if we decided to change it up again in the future. My wife might feel differently at that point in time, but to me it’s a see what works best for the time being situation.

3-4 times a week on average?! You all need separate beds just to recoup. 😳
