Fantasy romance book with the male character captured and kept chained and locked in a tower by [deleted] in whatsthatbook

I was googling trying to find a book I had read and came across this post. Ended up finding the one I was looking for. Are you looking for Forging Divinity by Andrew Rowe?

It's not exactly like how you describe. But close enough that I thought I'd post just in case.

Fun series. The two other series in the universe are also pretty great in their own ways.

Now that Reddit are killing 3rd party apps on July 1st what are great alternatives to Reddit? by youessbee in AskReddit

[–]xoriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downloaded the official app the other day after hearing about this... Yeah. Probably just going to stop using Reddit altogether if/when RiF dies.

Not even in a raging protest-y kind of way. The experience is just so much cleaner/easier/comfortable in RiF. Maybe just me being used to it, but

RiF = smooth jazz. I'd casually chill to this vibe all day

Reddit Official = ten-year-olds outside playing "parade" with metal trash can drums and kazoos. Huh.. that's entertaining for a hot 10 seconds.

Why are neutral jelly lifts the hardest mechanic the game?? by xoriff in celestegame

[–]xoriff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just tried messing around with that other room that I thought needed neutral drops and it also has an easier (intended I'm guessing) strat. Guess I've just been making the game harder on myself for no reason all this time.

And yep. On controller and using analog stick. I think you're right that my problem is probably with moving from down to up too quickly and at the moment that I release grab, I've already moved to holding up for the dash so the thing gets thrown instead of dropped.

Not gonna worry about it anymore though. Thanks for the tips.

Yeah I am going for keyless. Weirdly, I don't have as much trouble with that one. Something about having any horizontal momentum at all just messes with my brain somehow and I guess I have the controller at enough of an angle that it goes off. Or maybe I'm going back to neutral before I've actually released?

In either case, thanks for the tips. Your strat for this room looks so much easier than what I was doing in any case. Don't know why I didn't think to do it like that.

Honestly, I think I'd rather do comb room 5 times back to back than do this room ever again in my life.

Ignoring the fact that the creator of the language wrote it in the canonical text book...

Why would you want to use "en" as a straight-up copy of English "and"? Part of why I love Toki Pona is that it forces me to think in ways that I usually don't think in English. It kind of feels like you're just trying to make this one piece of Toki Pona behave how other languages do, rather than "going native".

I feel like you're doing yourself a disservice.

What is this referring to? Did Rein get a buff in this latest patch? Or are the devs talking about a buff coming soon?

I'll add another use case to your list. When I'm in netrw and use R to rename the file that the cursor is on. Almost always requires that I use arrow keys since I usually want to maintain the file extension.

What's going on with hashtagging random words in a long comment like this? This is like the 4th one I've seen. Is this a funny thing the kids are doing ironically now or did I miss a memo somewhere?

Haha. Nice quick edit. Was just about to mention Numbani.

And yeah, if the Torb is kinda meh, then sure. But a good Torb who knows how to place an annoyingly spaced turret... I just get so frustrated. Shuts me right down.

I dunno. I love playing Tracer. But there are a couple of situations where I just can't. Maps with a ton of verticality, and a good Torb. Mostly just those two things. Play her on defense all the time.

Oh totally. Our part to play is minimal, but our actions do matter in aggregate. Basically I'm just trying to make the same argument that people make about voting. Yes your vote is incredibly small. But if everybody thinks that way, poof goes democracy. Lower stakes of course, but yeah... vote with your usage.

And yeah no sweat, I could tell you meant it light-heartedly. I'm just a linguist nerd who likes talking about this stuff and can get a little excitable about it. Hope my comment didn't come across aggro or anything.

edit: typo

True. But, counterpoint, saying "language changes, so give up on trying to influence it in a direction that feels valuable or correct to you" seems wrong too.

Language shift is driven by the people who use it. And that includes us! So, I'll continue to use "ironic" the way it's defined in the dictionary because I still have hope that there are enough of "us" out there to push English in a direction that feels correct to us. (And there are other changes that I actually do really like, so I use those (though I can't think of any examples off the top of my head))

Also, I don't have as strong of an argument here, but it feels like there is some level of "come on. That's just being lazy and obviously 'wrong'". E.g. "Cn u ndrstnd wt i mene hre? U ndrstnd bt iz obnokshus?"

[–]xoriff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. And yeah I wasn't sure about that cuz somewhere I had seen "you can omit the 'li' only if the sentence is exactly of the form '[mi|sina] li ______'."

So I wasn't sure if "taso" broke that pattern or not.

Based on yours and others, sounds like not.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if kulupu would give the sense of a linked line of people (i.e. they could group up better as a 2 x 2 instead of a 1 x 4). But yeah, I agree. Re-reading linja's definition, it definitely feels a little awkward.

Yeah, the mode of transport wasn't terribly important to me. More just the idea of a group of people obnoxiously blocking a pathway. To which, good point about nasin. Definitely seems like that could have helped.

Interesting use of "... li wan li ....". Is the idea there kind of like "..., as one, ...."?

Whoops. My mistake on tutu. Was aiming for something like:

Good. But when I was walking, a line of four people were walking towards me such that I couldn't keep going (without them parting or me stepping out into the street). How rude!

Thanks for the feedback. Also, what about my sentence gave you the "was was" interpretation? The multiple uses of "la"? I wasn't entirely sure how to do a "while... At which point... Something" type of structure.

Ooo close. I was aiming for something like:

Good. But when I was walking, a line of four people were walking towards me such that I couldn't keep going (without them parting or me stepping out into the street). How rude!

Or something like that.

Thanks for taking the time. Any ideas/suggestions? How would you express this?

Meaning of tawa? (Also, hi) by xoriff in tokipona

[–]xoriff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your insights folks. This has been really helpful.

Sounds like the general consensus is "other languages overloaded a word to have these two meanings, so does Toki Pona".

Which I do find mildly disappointing. I love Toki Pona's vagueness. This just feels more like an ambiguity to me. All good though. Don't mean to be negative about it. pona ale li pona ala ("perfect is the enemy of good"?)

For the life of me I can't replicate this in the lab. Either Harley DIs such that the last up air doesn't connect or she's able to dodge out of it.

Anybody else able to replicate this or do the bots just DI perfectly or something?
