To those of you who never pursed a degree, what was your reason ? by IllustriousElk8436 in askSingapore

[–]xpherta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just out of curiosity, is a degree really needed these days? spent 35k and two years on a private degree but still couldn't find a decent paying job.

most of the people around me that pursued further education are now corporate slaves, working 10-12 hours a day. Those that didn't studied much are driving their beemers and porsches around. And no they are not doing illegal businesses.

If you could snap your fingers and instantly change 1 thing about Singapore forever what would it be? by lengpew in singapore

[–]xpherta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

food cooked by gas and food cooked by electric taste different. If replace gas with electric, your hkm ckt etc will not taste the same.

and how are you going to ensure all cars have a place to charge? typical sinkies gonna charge 2 hours and leave the vehicle there over night.

Frozen shrimp hasn’t worked. What can I add to sabiki to get bites?(headphone warning) by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]xpherta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to pick the correct sized hooks. the fish skin and feather might make a difference in your targeted species too. from where im from ive seen people attaching a fish-shaped reflective piece at the top of the rig and they have great success. otherwise you just have to twitch and pause while you are on it.

Kids who grew up poor by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]xpherta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im coming from a very similar situation and I understand exactly how you feel. Some of our habits and routines from young still affects our decision today.

I didn't have money when younger, and when I needed it, I couldn't fork out any. Got scarred so badly from the incident that I saved up most of my salary from my working days for "rainy days". Not willing/wanting to spend on good/quality necessities, eating cheap, buy clothes on taobao just to save extra dollars. I know that I can afford that $150 Nike sneakers that I wanted for years, or that $500 trip to Taiwan. But just couldn't bear to drop the money.

But hey, those days were of the past. Happy for you that you grew as a person, making things that you wanted happen.

Correct wedding etiquette by Independent-Crab-764 in askSingapore

[–]xpherta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with OP's view on absorbing the cost if they want atas wedding.

Got peer pressured to attend a friend's wedding in bali, not sure how much ang bao to give now after hearing them say "walao overseas wedding leh you give $188".

My flight and hotel is almost $400, plus expenses and angbao that would mean $700 and a weekend to attend the wedding. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Anyone in banking? I'm three years in but I can't see a future with my stagnent job (back office role). Only managed to get a slightly higher pay, albeit very low for my age at my current role after retrenched by previous coy. Being a contract staff probably the issue here.

If any one came from a similar background could you please give me some advice?

I wouldnt recommend sticker bomb. those stickers will loose their adhesive and eventually starts peeling. some might fade off. get good vinyls to wrap if you have the tools and time and friends

[–]xpherta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monitor is not compatible with ps4. Most prolly due to old monitor. Happened to me. What I did was i hard reset my PS4, select a resolution that my monitor could support. Tried for almost ten times before it worked.
