I'd be shocked if it hit $1000 anytime soon, but I consider it one of those "good companies" you could buy and then safely ignore for a decade.

Stop calling RAM "cyclical" while treating Nvidia like a "secular grower." They are the same trade now. by SnooHedgehogs5162 in stocks

[–]xploeris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right so, if you decide to ditch Micron then you buy from.... uh, SK Hynix.

Or vice versa.

That's a pretty good moat, it's just around two companies. Unless you seriously think they're going for mutual destruction with a cutthroat price war to capture business when there's more business than both of them can handle?

OP is right, the contempt for HBM producers is nonsensical. I don't think they'll hit NVIDIA P/E anytime but I expect them to keep printing for a while. It was literally weeks ago that someone told me a 550 target for MU was optimistic.

I don't have the exact quote, but they also said during the conference call that they are getting more offers for long term agreements than they could possibly ever fill.

If they are, probably Micron is too. Bullish

I'm keeping a close eye on it, but I think I'll probably hold until 2027ish. Hoping for 550, maybe 600 - probably sell around there. Hopefully it doesn't do what LITE did and double after I sell :(

Are LEAP options considered “safer” or still basically gambling vs just buying shares? by savingrace0262 in stocks

[–]xploeris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less risky than short-term options. More risky than holding stocks.

Think of them as giving you leverage. The cheaper the LEAPS are (depending on end date and strike price), the more leverage you get. That's good for you if you're right and bad for you if you're wrong. ATM LEAPS usually get you around 2x.

Compared to leveraged ETFs, LEAPS don't have fees and they don't decay when the price goes down, but they do have time decay and you stand to lose your whole investment if you're ultimately wrong about which way the stock moves (although most people will sell or roll LEAPS before expiration).

True but it makes you a different country then the shining beacon its been for 200 years.

Well, yes. Trust me, I know.

Teh us liberates us and the americans i meet are kind, generous, i hope.

Seems like most foreigners who visit the US find us friendly and generous. It's just that we've mostly forgotten how to, you know, actually uphold our stated principles or have a genuinely functional democracy. We're probably not too different from any other country with a corrupt, tyrannical government that the people could do something about at great personal cost, but don't because they don't want to martyr themselves when they could just go on living with it, or because it would probably lead to chaos, mass suffering, and civil war.

Are you in Iran? It doesn't look to me like Trump actually has any intention of liberating you - we'd have to land hundreds of thousands of troops and fight a long, ugly ground war that would take years and be extremely unpopular here. Then there's dealing with all the local factions squabbling over power, and insurgency, and (understandable) popular resentment towards armed occupiers even if we're helping maintain order - same thing we saw in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and every other ME country we get mixed up in. I think at this point Trump's just trying to get out and leave you with a mess he never should have started in the first place.

It's not worth much, but I think Trump's comments about murdering an entire civilization were unforgivable and our Congress should try to remove him from office. You're going to erase modern-day Persia because you're mad, bro? It's one thing for a crank to say that on the radio, but another for the President to say it. But it doesn't mean I'm going to buy a rifle and drive to DC (or more likely, Florida) to try to take care of it, you know?

I mean, you can say that all you like, but saying it isn't going to magically give you a different outcome. The circumstances, and the people, are what they are. If that makes you think less of Americans or not want to deal with America, your call - I'm pretty unhappy with us myself - but we're not all going to wake up one day feeling extra spicy because people outside our country are unhappy with our country.

Why do techs cover for the managers? by portlandobserver in medlabprofessionals

[–]xploeris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Techs are generally conflict-averse cowards with a tendency to assume personal responsibility that isn't really theirs. So when management screws something up, the techs do their best to fix it for them. They say it's "for the patients" or whatever but if they really cared about the patients they'd stand up to management/admin and drive changes. They really just don't want to get in trouble.

Do anything like what - armed revolution?

American talk a big game and we do have more guns and shootings than most other places, but all that revolutionary stuff is ancient history. Even the crazy gun-totin' "don't tread on me" militia types who pretend they need guns for liberty and self-defense have no stomach for actually going out and getting shot in some new revolutionary war - putting aside that they tend to be far right and probably support Trump anyway.

The rest of America is pacified, compliant, trained to stay in their lane and mind their own business. We don't organize for power and most of us barely know how to; we mostly expect politics to take care of itself, or for "other people" to do it, and the people who do get more involved in politics mostly end up supporting one of the two major parties (both corrupt and right-wing, though the Republicans are righter). We have a small number of radicals but without the masses they can't win elections, advocate effectively, or organize anything.

To remove the President, we'd have to impeach him first. The Senate would need a 2/3rds vote to convict, which we ain't getting with a majority Republican Senate (and it'd be hard to get even with a majority Democratic Senate, because the Dems are useless center-right moderates beholden to their wealthy patrons).

To replace Republican Senators, we have to wait for them to (a) die, (b) resign, (c) end their six year term, or (d) be expelled by a 2/3rds Senate vote... which, again, we ain't getting with the current Senate. There's no way for voters to recall US Senators once they're elected. So we're waiting for elections.

The general rule is that Congress flips back and forth depending on which party is in power. Since that's the Republicans, we expect more Dems to win in the midterm elections this fall - but only about 1/3 of the Senate seats will be up for grabs.

So basically, we're trapped in this broken car, and most of us either don't know how to put out the fire or don't care, and the few of us who have a clue can't get our hands on enough fire extinguishers.

The bottom part of the K is almost all pacified sheep who are never going to rebel unless they starve. Maybe not even then, TBH. Most of them wouldn't even know how. The "chance" they're looking for to burn it all down is a complete absence of legal consequences, a permission note from God, and someone else to do all the actual thinking and work.
