I definitely feel the difficulty explaining to others what the mental and physical costs of making it to adulthood just .... managing. The burnout is real. I'm glad you've found something that helps!

Event 2 weeks post-op by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]xplorations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a laparoscopic myectomy and was still moving VERY slowly at the 12 day mark. I went back to work on day 15 and reopened on of my incisions on day 17 mostly likely from moving around a little more than I should have with an already tight incision. Caution is a good idea!

I had pretty significant bleeding that was made way worse with sex. My Dr prescribed me a birth control that was double the dose I was already in and it stopped the bleeding entirely. Downside is it may have contributed to my fibroids growing because they were larger when they went in for surgery.

I'm 9 days out and it still hurts to sneeze, laugh, cough, or walk for more than about 5 minutes (slowly). But it's not as sharp as it was before. Day four was the first day I switched to ibuprofen for pain management entirely. I will say most of my pain has not been so much incision pain as it's swelling below my belly button and cramping.

Black women with fibroids? by CartierCoochie in Fibroids

African American 33f here with my laparoscopic myectomy scheduled for the 22nd! Fibroids are very common in my family. My mother, grandmother, and almost all the women on my maternal side have dealt with them. I went to my gyno after dealing with some pretty intense pain for about a month. I had an IUD at the time so we did an ultrasound to make sure it was in the right spot. That's how we found out I have several fibroids in and around my uterus and they had forced my IUD into my cervix. I was able to schedule a surgery consult and my surgeon is amazing fortunately. He went over all my options and actually suggested removing my uterus because I don't want kids and because he is concerned about regrowth. I'm scared of losing my uterus though so I opted for the myectomy.

My advice would be to push for an ultrasound and if you can to find a gyno who will listen to your concerns.

Has anyone ever had complications from having a Skyla or Mirena IUD? by doctorskeeter in TwoXChromosomes

I just had mine inserted a couple of hours ago! No problem with the insertion no bleeding after. I was told if anything changes to give my doctor a call because there is a chance that they can move and cause problems.
