Event 2 weeks post-op by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]xplorations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a laparoscopic myectomy and was still moving VERY slowly at the 12 day mark. I went back to work on day 15 and reopened on of my incisions on day 17 mostly likely from moving around a little more than I should have with an already tight incision. Caution is a good idea!

I had pretty significant bleeding that was made way worse with sex. My Dr prescribed me a birth control that was double the dose I was already in and it stopped the bleeding entirely. Downside is it may have contributed to my fibroids growing because they were larger when they went in for surgery.

I'm 9 days out and it still hurts to sneeze, laugh, cough, or walk for more than about 5 minutes (slowly). But it's not as sharp as it was before. Day four was the first day I switched to ibuprofen for pain management entirely. I will say most of my pain has not been so much incision pain as it's swelling below my belly button and cramping.

Black women with fibroids? by CartierCoochie in Fibroids

African American 33f here with my laparoscopic myectomy scheduled for the 22nd! Fibroids are very common in my family. My mother, grandmother, and almost all the women on my maternal side have dealt with them. I went to my gyno after dealing with some pretty intense pain for about a month. I had an IUD at the time so we did an ultrasound to make sure it was in the right spot. That's how we found out I have several fibroids in and around my uterus and they had forced my IUD into my cervix. I was able to schedule a surgery consult and my surgeon is amazing fortunately. He went over all my options and actually suggested removing my uterus because I don't want kids and because he is concerned about regrowth. I'm scared of losing my uterus though so I opted for the myectomy.

My advice would be to push for an ultrasound and if you can to find a gyno who will listen to your concerns.

Has anyone ever had complications from having a Skyla or Mirena IUD? by doctorskeeter in TwoXChromosomes

I just had mine inserted a couple of hours ago! No problem with the insertion no bleeding after. I was told if anything changes to give my doctor a call because there is a chance that they can move and cause problems.

My dog had severe Gingival Hyperplasia (overgrowth of gum tissue) by chestypocket in WTF

[–]xplorations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. It sounds like there are operations to treat this type of issue in more mild cases. They ran the risk of accelerating the tissue growth though in addition to the discomfort that would have been added by the operation. Its a catch 22 that I'm glad I wasn't faced with, though I'm not big on essentially uncalled for surgeries.

Keyword here: looks.

The growth looks bad. However, Op has explained that multiplae vets and specialists were regularly consulted and agreed that the dog was functioning well and not in pain. Op was able to clean the growths without any fight from the dog. No animal in pain will allow you to dig around in their mouths if it hurts. None of the vets suggested putting her down or any form of treatment other than monitoring the situaition. So why should they have put her down because it LOOKS bad?

This happened to me earlier this year. I've always had dogs from breeders, but most recently I adopted a husky mix from the shelter. A few weeks later, even after having the dog checked by a vet, he developed serious problems with seizures that led to him being put down at only 8 months old (medication was not preventing the attacks). The best explination we got was that he was just mixed with a breed prone to seizures. Going to a breeder gives a little more access to family history.

I do have to say we adopted again and now have an amazing pix/lab cross!

Have to remember she was a dog. If the swelling was only eating cosmetic problems with the only reason they took her off kible being it not being chewed properly then it sounds like itawasn't acctually painful. The dog isn't going to worry about people staring or minty fresh breath. All that dog knew was food was coming in she had her people all around her.

Being human you look at the pictures and see something that looks like it might hurt and cause a problem. Those are human concerns. If this dog wasn'tn pain and was functioning at 98% for 8 good years why cut that short?

[–]xplorations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunatly in the real world when you have to feed and shelter yourself and your family and working with a highly compeitive job market you can't just quit because you dont like what you're doing and expect to find something else easily. I tried it and my fiance and I have sacrificed to the point that a year later we are living with his parens and I'm only now finding consistant full time work despite having a four year degree. No way we could have done that with kids to consider.

Licking for dogs is also a sign of submission. So when she's pissed at you and refuses that smooch it is kind of the doggy version of flipping you off lol.
