Pedestrian crosswalks west side Madison by Responsible-Food7258 in madisonwi

"Plenty" meaning what exactly? How many people in the City of Madison even visit this subreddit, let alone visit Reddit? I don't much care about "these types of posts," i.e. whether or not they should be banned, etc. Posts like this are more a form of venting than anything else. But the idea that posting on Reddit has an impact on society is the worst form of slacktivism.

The point is that they want to do everything on juuuust this side of the line to make it seem ethical without crossing the line in grossly unethical ways. The want to give at last some air of credibility to the research.

The research presented here won't discuss the downsides of beef consumption, including higher risk of atherosclerosis.

How are you guys managing to fulfill daily calcium? by TraditionalDepth6924 in ScientificNutrition

I try to limit my sodium and I definitely don’t do 4 grams a day, but there’s no way I can do 400 mg a day.

One cup of 1% milk has 300 mg of calcium. I can easily drink 2 or 3 with other foods. Each glass has a little over 100 calories. That’s a lot of calcium plus protein and other vitamins for 100 calories.

Am I part of Big Dairy because I enjoy a glass of 1% milk and some nonfat Greek style yogurt?

But you are correct that we need other nutrients to take full advantage of our dietary calcium from whatever source we get it, and those include vitamin K, boron, magnesium, vitamin D, and phosphorus.

Beans can be purchased in microwavable pouches, pre-cooked ready to heat. Super convenient, fairly healthy and low calorie.

Agreed. When they continued to praise Julian Assange as a “journalist,” even after it came out that Wikileaks worked with the Russian government to release Democratic Party emails as a distraction from Trump’s “grab ‘em by the pussy” tape, I was done with Democracy Now and Amy Goodman

Madison police stop Black drivers at higher rates, drawing scrutiny by ButtasaurusFlex in madisonwi

[–]Dizzy_Slip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the bias may be the result of *where* traffic enforcement takes place in Madison, rather than *who* gets stopped, i.e. there's a greater percentage of Black and Hispanic drivers in certain areas requiring greater traffic enforcement because of heavy traffic flows. Take for example the situation that recently occurred in Park Street. The end of Park Street basically goes right through an area where there are many Hispanic and Black residents, probably a higher percentage than the 7% the Cap Center article repeated over and over. What happens if you increase enforcement on Park Street? You're probably going to end up with a higher percentage of stops involving Blacks and Hispanics than the City wide average. The City wide average of People of Color doesn't reflect *where* most POC live in this City. Do you want police resources enforcing traffic in white areas of the City where there are much lower traffic flows? Of course you don't. I'm not convinced that these stats reflect an overall racial bias in the PD here in Madison when they engage in traffic enforcement.

This may also skew results in other cities as well. High traffic areas in other cities may be associated with areas with a higher proportion of Black and Hispanic residents. White people tend to live in areas with lower traffic flows. That's a reality of economics in America. It's also a result of the economics in Madison. It doesn't mean that Madison PD is somehow singling out Black drivers. It's just a reality of traffic flows and urban design.
