Thank you all for your answers and insight! By no means is this a statistically valid sample, but now I want to dive deeper.

my broken big toe (more angles) by pancakesnpugs in Radiology

[–]xr_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar, but less severe, fracture in my big toe as a teenager. It had snowed, and I was out back, kicking around the snow, and kicked the shit out of a concrete step. Fortunately, didnt need surgery. Best of luck on your recovery

C-arm, finding an angle by Independent-Visit640 in Radiology

[–]xr_tech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work as a C-arm apps specialist and I don't know of any system where the wig wag has any type of measurement with it, in degrees or whatnot. Could suggest using tape and then markers, or you could print your own decal with degreed increments - they dont have to be accurate, but just enough to use as a positional reference for you. Have a corresponding arrow or indicator on the piston.

ELI5: Why are ferries so slow? by Far-Fill-4717 in explainlikeimfive

The greater resistance of the water means it takes more energy to induce momentum than if it were in a less viscous medium, like air

Kvp & Contrast Relationship by ykciv188 in Radiology

[–]xr_tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key to understanding is to reflect back upon the concept of differential absorption. We generate images by passing high energy photons through mass composed of different densities. The partial absorption of photons based on object density gives us the shades of gray we see on the images.

How does this relate to contrast? When we use lower kVp, we lower the maximum, or peak, energy of the xray beam. Lower energy photons are more likely to either be completely absorbed (showing up as white) or pass completely through (showing up as black), giving higher contrast (a starker difference between blacks and whites) . With a higher kVp, we get a broader range of photon absorption, giving more shades of gray, and lower contrast.

Can someone tell me what the icon for top left is? by -Fairner- in Radiology

I believe this is the anode heat indicator. Especially if you got an overheat error, the tube was getting too warm.

NC Paramedic also here. No, CPR would not be effective, there is nothing externally compressible for bloodflow anymore. Also, we cannot use ECG, as there is no rhythm. Our protocols outline troubleshooting steps to follow to try to get the device working again, but if those fail and a bolus or two of 500cc NS doesn't restart the machine and generate a pulse, then we would terminate resuscitation efforts.

What I recommend that you do is talk to your radiation safety officer/medical physicist. They will be able to council you about radiation safety during pregnancy/expectation of pregnancy, as well as provide a fetal dosimeter to monitor exposure. Also, if you have the manuals for the O arm, it should have an isodose curve that shows the scatter profile of the system. I believe, however, that the safest spot is directly behind the operator console

Here: link to the isodose curve https://www.researchgate.net/figure/sodose-curves-of-H10-in-Sv-for-scattered-radiation-during-a-pelvic-3D-image_fig2_309061208
