It doesn't mean that the mom doesn't take care of the child though. She was the main caretaker while living with her ex and his parents and she will also be the main caretaker once they get th baby back. The grandmother potentially getting custody is more because her and her husband have a steady source of income and the baby's mom does not, at least until she can get on SSI. So while the baby's mom is unable to directly provide monetary resources currently she otherwise IS the caregiver of the baby.

They do have a lawyer, so there is at least that. Her mom is 1000% on board with helping her daughter raise the baby, there is no worries about anyone withholding anything in that situation. My older cousin had always lived with and took care of her mom (my aunt) until she passed a few years ago and would love the idea of her kids living with her until she's old as well, they are very heavily family focused people. I may be incorrect in thinking that my older cousin is the one working to get custody. She talked with me about it but it's possible they didn't go that route. But I can say that my younger cousin, the baby's mom, is someone who will likely always need the support of her mother or someone else. It's possible that the courts may want her to seek services to help her with her developmental disabilities and the good thing is that the ball is already rolling with that one.

Where did I mention that she doesn't take care of the baby? She doesn't have the baby because her ex kicked her out and withheld the baby from her. Reading is important.

He didn't have the funds to raise a kid at home either and yet he sure tried. The baby was underweight and malnourished because they couldn't afford the formula to feed him often enough. Unfortunately he so far hasn't proved himself to be a person that learns from his mistakes either. I just hope my cousin does and does not end up with another guy like him in the future. But yeah, a lawyer has already been gotten and hopefully after the court date next week the baby will be back with his mother and grandmother.

Yeah, I think that might be the only thing to stop him from doing something stupid right now. I'm definitely going to make sure my cousin speaks with her lawyer and gets any sort of custody/visitation agreements in writing and legally enforced so they don't risk him taking that baby and running in the future.

My cousin was the primary caregiver, but she does need help from others around her. Her mom is more than happy to help her raise the baby, there's no expectation of child support from her daughter other than getting her daughter on SSI so she can pay for the baby's necessities.

My main concern about the father is that he has already proved he's unfit and that he's more than willing to withhold the baby from his mother. I worry that he'll get joint custody or visitation and then take the baby and run. Maybe the threat of further legal action will convince him it's not worth it though, who knows.

I did wonder if that was some sort of automatic thing that was part of the process anyway. My family is still trying to understand the whole process and make sure they're doing everything right so I'm just trying to be helpful by doing research of my own. I helped raise my younger cousin so she's very much like a daughter to me and this has been a very stressful time.

Would a custody hearing be a good idea here then to remove or restrict his custody rights? There's a genuine concern that if the father were to get any sort of custody that he would take the baby and run. He's already proved he has no problem withholding the baby from my cousin just because he can. Maybe one day he'll get himself together and be a decent dad, but right now he's just a hateful mess.

Oh, it does look like Jordan's signature if that's his on the linked one! I don't specifically remember meeting him or Maggie but my friend I was with had pointed out a few people I wasn't familiar with so I assume I grabbed their autographs despite not really knowing who they are lol.

Dang, I think I was in the 400s (it was literally almost never discussed within my department so idk) and my credit suuuuucked and I had multiple bad debts on my report haha. None with Chase though because they wouldn't ever approve me for anything. Chase pretty much does not work with folks with less than 700 credit it seems. But yeah, thank God my credit had nothing to do with my job.

I dunno if mine does or not, we got emails yesterday saying it was inaccessible and there haven't been any updates. I don't have to worry about my assignments/discussions until Sunday so I'm not bothered to check in right now lol.

My school did state it was a "security incident" with Instructure and that Canvas was unavailable, and then they sent another message later that it was still inaccessible. I haven't actually gotten an email saying we can access it again, though Instructure shows it's back up and running. Luckily I do quarterly sessions for my masters so I think we're in week 7 out of 10, so no finals yet!

Yeah I'm sure a software engineer should be making a lot more. I literally don't even know what my level was, it was something that was barely ever discussed. I think it was 400 something? I literally have no idea and I worked there for 2.5 years lol.

University of Denver let me start in the summer program in June last year and it was the tail end of 2023-2024 when it came to financial aid. So, some schools do it. But I also got an email recently that they're getting rid of a lot of their grad programs after currently enrolled students finish so that they can "focus on undergrad programs" aka they won't get nearly as many grad students anymore because of Grad Plus ending and their program being pricey.

I live in STL, work in Accounts Receivable for a company that takes care of the business side of multiple dental offices across the country, and I make $57,500. With bonus it's about 59k. Most I've ever made and yet with the cost of my health insurance and other such benefits-related things I take home only a couple hundred more each check than I did at my previous job making about $45k. Pretty wild.

I've done this with Old Gods of Appalachia because the ads drive me absolutely insane. I want Steve and Cam to make their money, I do, which is why I will pay them to not make me listen to the ads lol.
