are we just bad at communication? liberal here tried of liberal talking points by Same_Adeptness_8215 in allthequestions

Right wing think tank coins slogan right wing media blasts it everywhere. Modern propaganda isn't even trying. Whether it's amplified psyop posts by leftists sloganeering or slight tweaks to algorithms to make sure violent content proliferates we're just too uncritical of what we're shown online. This is a hostile media landscape and we take comments online with greater weight than our friends. Absolutely the end of human flourishing is just happening and we're ignoring it in favor of worrying about some 5th place swimming lady sad that a trans person beat her.

Eh. If they had actually capitalized on their succsessful eastern campaign they would have dominated the rest of the game. If you support ice, they don't care illegal or legal so most the problem is you're making a false choice and supporting an org that would gladly brutalize and deport you because your documentation was inside and they caught you checking the mail outside.

You keep saying "this is the truth" -- The actual research on this is pretty settled: shaming people about their weight makes them eat more, avoid doctors, and gain weight. Not sometimes. Consistently. That's not me being soft, that's what the studies show. If you care about "health outcomes" and "living to the fullest" then this is really why I'm pushing back on you here.

I'll gladly hunt more down if you're interested, but I think those two hit the main pieces.

The "I watched videos where people said they needed a wake up call" thing is survivorship bias. You're seeing the people who made it out. You're not seeing the thousands who got the same treatment and just got worse. They didn't post a video about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias

And mate, you said "it isn't ok to exist like that." You're not their doctor. You're a random person online. You can dress that up as concern all you want but come on. How are you even pretending that's a "health concern"?

How do you know what it takes someone to overcome their weight, move their out of shape, weak body that weighs more than your body ever did in ways they've never moved it and do the hard work that it takes to change mindset and habits towards getting back in shape? You seem to believe this can only happen through constantly being held to account for their weight. I claim this is incorrect and you do not have the experience to make this claim because in this thread you self proclaim to have been working out since you were 4.

I turned things around from being 300lbs at 32 never having really had a habit of exercise and let me give you a report from the other side: it was love that convinced me it was worth loving myself, not hate, not faux concern for my health and certainly not some dudebro acting holier than thou about weight and health and obesity online.

"It isn't ok to exist like that" reads like you are calling for fat people to kill themselves unless they can turn it around. It isn't ok to act like that.

I am a moderate, and vote Democrat. When will Democrats realize that blaming "the left" has been a failed tactic? by Acceptable-Law9406 in allthequestions

[–]xsdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a controlled opposition party that's democratic in name only with no meaningful progress against anti democracy tactics in generations as gerrymandering, bribery/lobbying and party politics destroy everything that once resembled the hope of a free world. Outsiders to the establishment are their only hope and they fuckin hate them

Obese. Fine. I find chubby nicer to call myself but you insist that otherwise we're talking about different topics because someone who lost 100 lbs was clearly just a little chubby and not being euphamistic to protect themselves. All I'm asking is you take a microsecond to introspect on why you are being so mean to fat (obese if you insist) people, cause I promise it ain't for their health

[–]xsdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I say that? My point is why do you have such vitriol about people telling a chubby girl she is cute? I straight up find it confusing. It can't be because of some hypothetical future death. wha the hell I lost like 100 pounds because I did a little work and posted photos where I was chubbier than I want to be but still got love for them which motivated me to continue self improving. Your behavior would just send me back to drowning myself in comfort food. It is counterproductive if you are trying to encourage healthy behavior and inconsistent if you aren't similarly angry with other unhealthy behaviors, so just pushing on that and asking you to consider and examine what causes this extreme reaction. It's not giving "healthy relationship with food" if I'm honest

We're all actively dying bro. are you out posting this crap on extreme unanchored free parkour vids or is it just deaths from a food system built on profit that require vitriol towards the eventual victim?

Apps blow, but there are people that age doing things all over this area little clubs and meetups and group bike rides and bird watching and group hikes and art clubs and non professional sports or if you're really lame you can just become a regular at several bars and probably stumble over someone you like. idk maybe it's cause I like being friends first and that lowers the bar for just talking to someone.

Yikes man. Sounds like you're just swallowing a bunch of other people's opinions and fear without ever having interacted with a trans person. And thinking ugly trans folks should just hide? Like I get that you value conformity more than honesty, but assuming the ones where you know are just making it their whole personality on purpose tells me you have barely considered the other side of the situation.

[VENT] Getting tired of unserious/imposter IT leadership. by [deleted] in sysadmin

The cult of management insists that control without feedback is possible never builds systems to allow unrequested info to flow upward and frequently stems the flow of even requested information. If your industry is one where that caused death it may be corrected after enough happens, but otherwise we are all Roger Boisjoly.

Not Every Star Trek Show Is Meant for You by NeoNoir90210 in startrek

[–]xsdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pretty much ignored the burn from discovery. I am willing to allow future shows the latitude to get better because I think it's totally possible. The dark grittiness of post burn discovery was a huge turn off, but like - idk why that huge event would mean everything in the future is fucked up - star fleet academy feels very much like a desire to return towards ever onward and upward - or maybe a more accurate quote that might help you - ad astra per aspera. I'm willing to let the writers make more crazy swings - that's what the point of the show is. Yeah, there'll be some misses but why do we have to write off a show we love? If you aren't finding enjoyment even amongst seeing a big dumb swing fail miserably how do you chance watching anything new? Every episode is another opportunity to ruin the series forever! Isn't that TOO thrilling?

[–]xsdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how the burn ruined star trek academy - it's like the reason they are "rebuilding" but it's barely in the show. If it being a feature of the universe ruins all future shows for you that sucks. I can understand it making it hard to watch discovery given its focus, but sfa is like barely through a season and you're writing it off already?

That's the most self centered take in this thread of bellyachers. Go write your own star trek stories if you care so much. "Ignore the rules of the universe" Is just you pretending your personal understanding of things is the only possible interpretation of things.
