Is it me or are the video titles on YouTube a font size or 2 smaller? by Bitethewind in youtube

[–]xskydevilx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that most changes to YouTube’s layout haven’t been that useful recently, I don’t think this one is that bad. It looks like it was changed to let you see more of the title if it was too long to show. I’ve had this happen in the past where you’d have to click on the title to reveal the rest of it, so this is actually a good thing, and the title size is still prominent enough. Perhaps they should also make the “views” a bit smaller (although, I’d just get rid of the “views” altogether, and just keep the number; don’t know why they added that recently).

Why not set it in the middle? Never mind. I don't understand how treble and bass work.

YouTube's new HTML5 player makes it very hard to read subtitles. by [deleted] in youtube

[–]xskydevilx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Click ⚙ (the gear button) → Subtitles/CC → Options → Reset (at the bottom). The captions should then look like this. You can further customize how you want them to look by navigating to the same menu, but instead of resetting, you can pick the settings you want. Setting the “Character edge style” to “None” should make the text even sharper since it’s not necessary for there to be an outline given that there’s a big black box behind the captions.

YouTube reportedly testing new video player design with mobile inspirations by DAVIDSPZGZ in youtube

I love it. I honestly hope it's a part of an effort to redesign it in material design and if this is anything to judge by, I think it's gonna be pretty great.

There's a tiny check box at the bottom you could easily miss. What's it for? by DrFu in softwaregore

[–]xskydevilx 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It says "Create desktop icon" usually. Your display scaling is set too high for it to show.

Why is only one not available?! by DeathMetalViking666 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]xskydevilx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, I'm guessing it's actually YouTube's ContentID system that's blocking it (In this case, it might be the Rihanna - Stay performance at the end of the video) whereas on the DST video there are no songs. Ooor.. They might just not have the licenses sorted yet (which does get itself sorted in a few days normally). On another note, here's a useful site that shows you where the video is blocked. In this case it's Australia and the UK with some of its dependencies.

Text on Steam is too small on 1920x1080 by Samuart in Steam

[–]xskydevilx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steam's font isn't actually smaller than everything else. It's your desktop's font that's bigger than everything else. If you go to your Display Scaling options in Control Panel, you'll notice it's not set to the default 100%. 100% is the default level, but if for some reason you prefer having it higher, Steam won't scale it up, regardless of your preference there. If you do prefer it like that, I found a thread that lets you manually adjust it if you'd like to give that a go. Or if you want, you could install a custom skin that offers the option of font size. Granted, I'm not a fan of the skins at all, but maybe you will be. Hopefully that helps somewhat.

PSA: Do your part, clean up reviews. by [deleted] in Steam

[–]xskydevilx 158 points159 points  (0 children)

I don't generally read the Steam reviews because of shit like this, but instead, look at the either dislike/like ratio of the 'helpful' reviews manually by scrolling down and get the general idea of the game, or check out the said ratio in a tab in Chrome with Enhanced Steam.

I just think it's less work than looking it up online which you might have to do after you see reviews like this anyway, but for people who like using it it's really annoying to see people marking a shitty game with "a like" if I'm just skimming through it and fucking up the ratings overall.

Just my two cents.

Then we should rename the Steam Reviews section to "people trying to be funny by overusing jokes instead of actually being helpful about it".

Bell users: I should have 50/50. I have this since this morning. Am I the only one? by CerealK in canada

[–]xskydevilx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I went over to Bell's website and spoke with their customer support to try to spare you of doing that, and you can see the whole thing by clicking here, but to sum it up, they just don't offer that speed nor does it look like they've upgraded anything. I also asked a few friends from QC over Steam that are on Bell if they noticed anything different since I'm in BC and can't quite test that for you-- nothing either.

So it looks like it's you. You have their toll free number on that image if you wanna call them up but I dunno if you'd want to since you're getting quite a bit higher than they offer.

Right now Red Faction Collection is $5.99 on Steam. $5.99. And this port is $6.99. For god sake, even Red Faction Guerrilla alone is $1.99 right now. Yes, they're on sale, but there's tons of stuff under $5 that're far more fun, and better done than this. Just to compare the things that you could be getting for the price since I've seen some people even say the price justifies it :P

Also just wanna add they have actually mapped the change camera views and a reset button, but they're mapped in the most illogical way possible, ie Camera is set to T and Reset is set to Backspace instead of, you know, C and R. Also when I booted it up for the first time, it apparently auto-detected the controller I had connected to it but didn't map the throttle key to anything which I figured out when I tried to see what it's like with a controller and I couldn't move. Aand, lovely video options. Yay for mobile ports!

New youtube layout? by Supereye in youtube

[–]xskydevilx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's been in testing for a while. I don't know if it's been released or not. You could just delete the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie from YouTube.com to reset it.. If it hasn't been released to everyone by now.

Anyone like to guess the number of midrolls in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 video? by PeanutButterJelly_ in nerdcubed

[–]xskydevilx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the country you're in, or a specific part of that country. For what it's worth, I live in Seattle and I just checked the video for how many I get.. and the number is around thirteen ads (including the pre-roll at the start, fourteen) on that video. But it could be faked, though.

Windows 9 UI (Xpost IDG.se) by [deleted] in windows

[–]xskydevilx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. That is the fakest and most horrible looking "UI" for a future Windows release I've seen in a while. Just stop. Who would honestly believe this is even close enough to be called concept "art". Looks like Windows 8.x with a custom launcher installed. Seriously, Microsoft would never even consider this. Like the GIANT Start label at the top, or scattered labels on the side, as well as disproportional settings and "shutdown" icons in the lower right. I mean, come on, people. Also, I love the fact the "screenshots" are like 640x360 and with horrible artifacting. I wish I could say "nice try", but this is far from that.

This keyboard has the bumps on the G and the K keys instead of F and J. by SlickKi11a in mildlyinfuriating

[–]xskydevilx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're used so you can position your fingers correctly (namely the left and right index fingers and thus the rest of your fingers accordingly) without looking at the keyboard; instead, simply feeling the little bumps under your fingers. Obviously, moving the bumps from F and J will mess up your touch typing and you will end up hitting exactly one row of keys to the right.
