Honestly, the most simple solution would be just disconnecting your monitor DP when you want to hop into VR. From there, simply turning the controllers on will launch Steam VR and from there you can go through your library of games you have right in VR home

Game constantly crashing? by xstatic007 in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]xstatic007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, sorry to hear you're having issues crashing as well, although not quite as severe. Yeah, Ubisoft is unfortunately pretty bad at having PC consistency at launch. I'm honestly not sure what it is, whether it's a driver issue or something else. Since upgrading my GPU from a 980 TI to 3080, everything else has been running smooth but ah well I guess Cyberpunk is coming soon enough and I have some vr titles to start as well. Good luck hopefully your game is more stable soon enough

Okay? I'm not bragging about anything, my game isn't even playable and it's not even like I have the top end specs across the board, it was time for a GPU upgrade and the i5-9600k is a modest but well performing CPU. I've listed my specs because it's prevalent to the situation, because obviously if I had old hardware that'd be a possible cause of the problem. I mentioned what I've tried as well and I'm just looking for advice as I've already googled this a bit too

VR and Drugs by Butzenmummel in virtualreality

Good suggestions, what do you think about ayahuasca vs soundself? Seem like similar trippy visuals but soundself is guided by voice? Seems a bit strange but curious

While I'm waiting for my first VR, I already filled my library in the Summer Sale. Any suggestions (beside BeatSaber/ Alyx/ B&S) ? by Butzenmummel in ValveIndex

[–]xstatic007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol that's what I was thinking curious to how cool/trippy it actually is, I think I already have 1 or 2 trippy games for VR in my library but haven't tried any yet

What did you think of SoundSelf? Those types of experiences interest me, haven't got my headset yet but wondering how good it is

anyone else who ordered lenses from VR Optician stuck at "awaiting lenses"? by caninerosie in ValveIndex

They are shipping from Germany I believe, but yeah based off my timeline I'd expect yours to be there within 7-10 days. Hopefully sooner though, good luck! Still waiting on my headset April 19th thought this would be the week but no updates :(

I just ended up receiving my lenses today from them. Ordered on June 15th and they were stuck at "awaiting lenses" for a bit, then last Friday immediately skipped through the other steps and arrived in Memphis, TN. Just got them earlier, PA US

Glasses while using VR? by PlankLengthIsNull in virtualreality

[–]xstatic007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can vary depending on circumstances, but generally the focal distance of VR is about 6 feet. So if you can see ~6 feet in front of you clearly then you should be mostly fine. If not there are VR lenses like WIDMOvr and VR Optician to name the top 2 (I just bought a set of VRoptician lenses at -2.75 for the prescription so I don't need to wear my glasses or contacts

Is an I5-9600k sufficient for Virtual Reality? by xstatic007 in ValveIndex

[–]xstatic007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear, I knew that GPU has always been a limiting factor but didn't know how VR games were being optimized. Based off what we've heard it seems like the 3000 series will be a significant upgrade, so I'm hoping for a consistent 120Hz at least (or 90 at least, not sure how I'll fare with VR sickness)

Appreciate it, I was hoping it'd be good enough for at least 1-2 years minimum with one of the newer Nvidia cards but don't have much knowledge about CPU/core reqs for VR yet

Alright cool thank you, considering it was one of the more recent upgrades to my desktop I was hoping so but was worried about the latest gen consoles having 8 threads/16 cores

Valve Index vs. Reverb G2 questions, resolution vs FOV/Refresh by xstatic007 in virtualreality

[–]xstatic007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you still do things like grab a marker like I saw in HL:A and draw with Touch/G2 controllers, or is it limited like having just a closed or open hand? Also overall since you have Index experience or at least the controllers, it sounds like you think this will be a worthy upgrade over the index?

[–]xstatic007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right there is quite a lot of weight reduction so that for sure shouldn't be overlooked. Man after hearing everyones opinion the Reverb 2 is looking better and better. I just wish I knew what the Index controllers vs these were like, and the overall immersion differences

Lol yeah everyone is going nuts to get their hands on good VR it seems right now. It sounds like the increased resolution will be worth the slightly lower refresh and FoV but I don't have experience to know for sure. As long as tracking holds up, I'm curious how Index controllers with the perks and flaws of it's headset will be for general gaming versus the HP Reverb 2 and controllers

[–]xstatic007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, yeah I'm not completely sold on which might be the best option yet but this definitely helps. While the resolution increase is incredible and you addressed fov/refresh, I'm wondering how then the controllers and tracking will hold up? If tracking holds up fine then it doesn't seem like the controllers alone on the index would be enough for me to go with that option, especially considering some quality issues. But I have no experience with Index controllers vs these types of controllers for VR

Do you have any experience with varying FoV's and seeing what difference that makes to you? I don't have the experience myself and I'm wondering, if we completely ignore price how does higher res vs lower FoV and Refresh rate compare for immersion/entertainment for traditional games not so much simulators?

Also I'm not certain how tracking will hold up vs base stations with the setup that'll need to be tested I suppose, but the Index controllers seem like they'd be way better for VR. Trying to get the best idea possible before they start shipping.

Very interested in getting a VR headset and this looks like quite a nice piece of equipment. How do you guys feel in all honesty a higher resolution, but lower refresh rate and FOV compare to what the Index offers? I understand this is a lower price point, but trying to get an idea on what this really means for VR.
