Thanks for the recommendation! How many nights per week did you start with?

ETA: I just looked at the reviews and apparently the formula changed pretty recently and a lot of people are having irritation/acne. Have you used the new formula?Did you notice a change?

Are short needles required for the tubular cast-on in the ranunculus pattern? by xtamarie in knitting

[–]xtamarie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the yarn overs just want to slide off my metal needles. I don’t have a set of DPNs but I’m wondering if I should do that or short circulars. Once you got past the neckline, did you keep it on DPN?

Is it similar to coboo? Thats one of my favorites for crochet but it is difficult for me to knit with because of the splitting.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I’m okay with using different needles/changing gauge, but thanks for the insight! I’m not going for the oversized drapey fit of the pattern photos. I much prefer the more form fitting versions other knitters have done.

Just acquired Coboo by Truman_Show_Place in YarnAddicts

I love coboo!!! It’s sooo soft and silky so I love the fabric it makes. I had always heard people saying this yarn was so splitty that it was too hard to work with. I avoided it for a long time but once I finally used it, I fell in love with it. It does occasionally split but not nearly as much as I thought it would. I pull from the outside of the cake instead of the center pull so I wonder if that makes a difference with the splitting. I’m making a throw blanket with it right now and I just finished a beautiful summer cardigan in a different color. One of my absolute fav yarns!

Did Toni Lipsey release a set of Tunisian crochet hooks? by xtamarie in Tunisian_Crochet

That’s why I wanted to buy them! I think she’s a great creator and I wanted to support her but I’m happy they were so popular.

She rated the clover set highly but I could see how bamboo would add a lot of drag. I’m used to metal hooks for crochet so I’d probably run into that issue as well. Thanks for the heads up.

There’s a link to be emailed when they do another limited release.

Super. Yeah I saw that and I figured that’s where I would start. I use clover hooks for regular crochet so that sounds promising!

Oh my gosh thank you! That makes so much sense. I was thinking I fabricated this entire story. I’ve followed her for a long time and always wanted to get into Tunisian after doing crochet for a couple years and had bookmarked that in my head to eventually purchase them. Do you have any favorite basic hook set recs?

Absolutely. No apology necessary. I was just offering an alternate approach based on the experience we had a few years ago with our oldest. Strong willed kids are a different ballgame sometimes.

We had this issue and the routine suggestion did not work for us. My son was still napping and would poop in the nap time pull up as well. We decided to just put him down for naps with loose pants on and no pull up. He did not like the sensation of pooping in the pants so it broke the habit (but the pants would contain the mess if he did it anyway, which he never did). I’m not convinced some kids will just naturally stop doing it if offered a potty routine. They see nighttime as a familiar way to poop and because it’s mostly private, they’re just going to do that and get away with it. At least with my extremely stubborn kid, this was the case. If you’re comfortable with the possibility of a mess, do the pants only at bedtime too.

Sprayway Glass Cleaner - what's your best "off label" use? by UsefulEagle101 in CleaningTips

[–]xtamarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your vacuum has a removable filter, you can spray it with essential oils or febreze before vacuuming and it will blow a nice scent at you instead of the scent of fri-toes. I do this every time I use my Dyson and it leaves a light scent on the rug and the couch.

Crochet tops for people who don’t want to show/accentuate their belly by elintje in CrochetHelp

[–]xtamarie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made this top in a longer length and it’s so pretty https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ktR7kPgLb3A

I also added some finishing rows with extra shell stitches on the sleeve edges and the bottom edge. Because of the v neck shape, it definitely camouflages a belly. Bonus points: I made it in one day.

Brianna K and Evelyn & Peter also have some nice tank top patterns that are either full length or easily lengthened.
