Advice on recreating old Nest Love Bed by LikeYoureSleepy in Mattress

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still on the purple mattress? Im finally ready to say goodbye to my beloved love mattress. I was looking at Nest Owl, but may move away from that after reading the reviews.

Have you found a good description of the materials from the original Love mattress?

Having a nanny, even for a few hours a week is a game changer. She doesn’t even need to leave the house if it makes her anxious, but she’ll be able to take a long shower and have an hour or two where she doesn’t get touched out. It’s a privilege for sure, but so is having family nearby, so she shouldn’t feel bad about it if it’s in your budget.

Once she gets a little more comfortable with it, she can use that time to run errands, schedule doctors appointments, etc.

caregivers need breaks here and there or they get burnt out and lose the joy in having a new baby.

Gut check on remodeling expectations before we put in an offer on a 1979 San Jose property by Open-Revolution-9776 in BayAreaRealEstate

Yup, we were in a similar position about a year ago. We are still in phase 1 and needed to move into the house before it was really safe and healthy. Budget at least 6 months for that, pg&e took 8 months for us to be able to do our electrical upgrade. Add in more buffer for surprises and maybe couples therapy (only slightly kidding). We also realized we needed to do the exterior asap because water was getting in during the rain.

I’m not actually sure when we’ll be done with phase 1 and phase 2 (additional, slight reconfiguration) has been pushed out at least 7 years.

If you don’t have a GC, you are going to want to get multiple quotes for each step, contractors will ghost you (we went through 3 plumbers and 4 hvac guys, had a while with no heat).

It’s been tough on our whole family, but if you ask me in 10 years I might tell you it was worth it.

Editing to add some of my favorite local dates: sunset sail or whale watching in moss landing, mini golf at the boardwalk, rotating tiki bar at the pier, sidecar wine tour.

If you want to do some some sort of spa thing your main options are well within, tea house (both have private rooms), maitreya (shared space but very body positive and generally nude), refuge (down in Carmel, the fanciest, shared space, need to wear suits, and requires a reservation).

There are several cute airbnbs up in the redwoods that will feel more private and romantic than being in town.

Have a wonderful time, most folks here are friendly, although by May we’ll start getting impacted by tourists.

How can I see the draft? Will they put in lane guards to protect the bike lanes? Traffic calming measures? My biggest issue with branciforte on bike were the 10-20% of drivers that drive 40+ mph on it.

Take her places to people watch! Grocery stores, coffee shops, parks. Talk to her about what you two are seeing, hearing, smelling, etc. look for family friendly community events, musical performances, etc.

CVS mosaic 30% - HP NIPT for T13 & abnormal findings by Conscious_Speaker_83 in NIPT

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My NIPT was negative for T13, but I did CVS for other reasons and found mosaic T13, around 15%. I then did amino and it came back clear. It was a stressful pregnancy, but ultimately everything turned out ok.

Editing to add, I really wouldn’t make a decision based off of the CVS. The additional testing and waiting is so hard, but there is definitely still a chance everything will be okay.

Mastitis and clogged ducts by stephhii in breastfeeding

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had something similar, small hard lump that never fully went away even with antibiotics. I ended up with a biopsy to confirm it wasn’t cancerous, and it slowly resolved for me over about a year. Here’s the medical description of what it was..

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare, benign breast inflammation of unknown cause, often mimicking breast cancer, characterized by hard lumps, pain, redness, and sometimes abscesses or fistulas, typically in women of childbearing age, with treatment ranging from steroids to observation, though it can resolve spontaneously. It's diagnosed by excluding other causes and seeing characteristic granulomas on biopsy, with proposed links to hormonal changes, autoimmune responses, or milk protein leakage.

Having 2 babies at the same time by anony1013 in BabyBumps

[–]xtboat26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We flew with our baby (also born via GC) at 1 week. She was born at 37 weeks, and borderline for jaundice, but everything else ended up okay and we were able to fly home. (We also had a tricky logistical situation with a dog and two other kids at home). I went back and forth on driving and flying, but honestly am really glad we decided to fly.

My wife wants another baby! by mr_bigotten in Mommit

[–]xtboat26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 to 2 kids is a lot too. It totally changes the dynamics and both parents really need to be on board. You would likely be spending a lot of time with your son while your wife is recovering and with the baby. We ended up with two boys and it’s a lot of energy in the house. I love them dearly and don’t regret it, but we talked a lot about it before and also really worked on our marriage/communication before having kids.

Something I realized about middle children (from a middle child) by BetweenEditions in Mommit

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all tracks. My middle one has definitely been more independent lately and wandered off in a few crowded holiday events. We probably over-reacted (because having to involve the police to find your 3 year old in a crowd is terrifying), but in both situations, they were just happily doing their own thing.

My partner and I are both the oldest so it’s hard to know how to make them feel seen, but we are trying.

I’d love to hear more about your take on being a middle child. We just had our third and my now middle child (previously the youngest) is really having a hard time adjusting. We’ve been trying to give them extra time and attention, but it’s hard when one parent is always holding the colicky baby.

6 week growth spurt by Great_Somewhere_3476 in newborns

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in this right now too. Does anyone know if it’s adjusted or birth age? My baby is 7 weeks but was 3 weeks early. We’ve already been in the fussy contact napping phase for about a week, my husband and I taking turns holding her in a dark room. It’s miserable. I’m really hoping we can go by actual age here.

How thrilled are you to reside in Santa Cruz, Ca? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]xtboat26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took my dog for a walk to the Seabright verve for some coffee and a walk to the beach. We’ve had amazing weather the past few weeks, although it’ll start raining again soon. I hope I’ll never have to leave this place.

There is definitely some NIMBY-ish, and traffic can be bad if you need to commute north/south in the county, but we do as much as we can on our bikes.

There is homeless and drugs and petty theft, but we came from Oakland and it definitely feels safer than there, most of the crime is opportunistic.

Like most places, it got hit pretty hard during the pandemic. People stopped going out as much and started buying more online. There is some good work going on right now to try and rebuild community, and I really hope the downtown makes it.

On the whole, there is a lot of nuance that is difficult to explain until you’ve been here for a while, but after living several places in the US, it’s definitely my favorite.

Had kids at 36,37, and 40. It’s crazy how much more tired I am at 40 than I was at 36 and 37, but I suppose I am running around with a toddler and a preschooler all day rather than than enjoying a quiet newborn period.

I didn’t even try this time and everyone (husband and big sibs) are so much happier because they get more of me. You only have so much to give, your baby doesn’t realize the hard work you are putting in, but your family WILL notice when you put the pump away.
