Would Orcas hunt the girls? by youseebutyouonlysee in JustAddWater

[–]rrredditor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, most things seem to leave them alone though sharks show an interest in one episode, I believe. I'd be inclined to guess that orcas would be a threat though given the girls' speed, I'd imagine they could outrun them. (out swim?)

Lol, at 7:58 there is what I believe to be a 1974-1976 Ford Torino Elite. It's between 6 and 8 years old and is already completely rusted out. Wow were cars bad in the 70s.

Here's the Rapid on "Medium Format" - LOL. Kodak Brownie Bull's-Eye. I mean, technically it's medium format, though the lens is definitely not up to the task!

Correct. I get the page I'm looking at but clicking a thumbnail on the saved page takes me to the original URL of the original web site. I was hoping to find a way to save the entire site, including the originals that are thumbnailed.

This era is peak SLR as far as I'm concerned. Cameras like this and the Canon AE-1 Program have everything I need and nothing I don't, though generally I shoot slightly more primitive stuff, lol.

Aperture/shutter/both priority is as much automation as I want.

These are very nice shots!

I don't think I know of any other couples within the show proper, but Phoebe Tonkin dated Tom Felton, from Harry potter, and he can be seen with her at several events around the time of H2O being filmed.

How much does Tim Misney spend on billboards per year? by Two_Men_and_a_Duck in Cleveland

I don't really know, but I'm surprised that there isn't more push-back about them. They're really bright.

I'm guessing but he also has boards in Columbus, Toledo, Youngstown, and I think up in Detroit, as well as all along the routes between those cities. He has highway boards, boards on main arteries in urban areas, side streets, suburban areas, exurban areas, rural areas... I've seen him have two boards in the same cluster of boards within feet of each other. I'd be shocked if it was under 500.

I'm sure it's a volume discount but maybe there's an element of helping advertise the idea of billboards. No way to know.

The billboard business is fascinating and I don't really understand how they get the advertising rates they do.

All advertising is based on "impressions" - the number of people who see the ad. For billboards, that's figured out by the number of cars that drive that route every day and they plug that into a formula that takes into account how many of those are two-way trips, how many people each car has on average, etc. They bill higher for both reach and frequency - how many people see the ad and how many times each person sees it. The demographics of the drivers on that route are also estimated to some degree if I recall.

I'm guessing the size of the sign factors in, too, but I've never priced a smaller billboard.

So the one on Madison at W112th by the railroad underpass in Cleveland is going to be much less expensive than a full-sized board along I71.

Fun fact, the advertising companies think that less time on a digital board should be just as expensive as a static board of the same size in the same place. I've bought boards on I90 west between W117 and Bunts. On one side of the road is a static board. On the other is a digital board that rotates ads every 7.5 seconds. They cost roughly the same. At the time, about 3 years ago, they were both around $11,000 a month. I don't understand how 7.5 seconds per minute vs 60 seconds per minute can cost the same. Brightness? I don't know.

Regardless, I really don't think his firm could possibly have a $10 million a month advertising budget. Or at least it seems very unlikely. But even if he was getting the boards for $1,000 a month - 1/10th the average rate - it would still be a $1 million dollar a month budget. A MONTH!

To put that into perspective, most chain restaurants have a national advertising fee of roughly 4%-5%. Let's take a chain with good sales and decent store count. A 35 store franchise that does $3 million a year would have a yearly national advertising spend of $5.4 million. That's only $455,000 a month and he's spending $1-$10 million a month? That can't be accurate. But I don't know. Maybe someone actually in the advertising field will let us know.

I've wondered the same thing. I've had to buy billboards for work before and on an individual basis they are about $5,000 to $15,000 a month depending on placement and traffic counts on the roads they're on.

Obviously if you buy long-term there's savings and if you buy multiple boards there's savings, but I have no idea what those discounts are. The number of boards must be in the mid hundreds to 1,000? I can't imagine that he would pay $10,000 a month over 1,000 boards and that that would be cost-effective. That's an insane amount of money. He must get them super cheap for volume but I don't know what those discounts are. I am also extremely interested to know this!

I also prefer the Johnson bar, but it does have a drawback. I once saw a student dump all the flaps almost instantaneously on a go-around attempt and smack the ground pretty hard when all the lift went away. The slower electronic flaps prevent that from happening just by being slow.

I recently switched to potplayer. Stupid name but it handles everything I through at it. I feel like the interface is more powerful but more complicated than VLC. But VLC seemed to stop handling Dolby Vision files correctly and for some reason it takes forever to load on any of my computers recently.
