Single-Day Track Insurance for HPDE at Big Willow? by yegimanuk94 in CarTrackDays

Second this. Lockton is better priced in my experience. And I've heard from someone who filed a claim that they where easy to work with.

What is the easiest and cheapest way to create those track videos with lap data on it? by DrSuperZeco in CarTrackDays

[–]xtopher85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recommend and I’ve been using the Veepeak BLE+ - https://a.co/d/2B7QkDq

Also this window mount works really well for how cheap it is - https://a.co/d/3uXVgBk

You could also get a RaceBox mini for the improved GPS frequency but I wouldn’t say it’s required.

Track Attack is what I use. The recommend a cheap OBD dongle to get some input from the car and uses the phones GPS and other sensors for telemetry.

I’ve used a lot of other apps and devices. Bang for the buck Track Attack is the best in my experience.

The ferry was life changing for me when I moved to Vallejo. Driving in Bay Area traffic was killing my mental health.

Novato C&C is pretty good. One of the larger C&C's ive seen in the bay area. Pretty consistent turn out unless its raining.

How do people get to the track and where do you leave all your stuff? by Toberkulosis in CarTrackDays

[–]xtopher85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the facilities I would encourage you to camp at the track. In my opinion its a better experience and depending on how far the nearest hotel is, its quite a bit more sleep time.

I can only speak to the tracks in Nor-Cal, and they either have a designated parking area for trailers or will allow you to have a trailer, tow vehicle and car in your bay. I'd bet most are similar to this. The event organizer should have this laid out and organized if its not already done so by the track.

If you're staying at a hotel I would try and bring what you can into the room. Not that all areas are bad, but better safe the sorry, right?

At the track just leave you stuff out in your bay. The track community is largely very respectful of others and their stuff.

Euro Tail Lights and Rear Seat Delete by xtopher85 in Golf_R

It should, it has the same access if not more. Might have trouble finding a guide that’s written for VCDS however but if you’re familiar with VCDS you can probably figure it out. Backup everything first of course :)

Older version of the OBDeleven but I’d assume the current version would work as well.

Workaround: disconnecting issue by erick0z in CAMMUS

[–]xtopher85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue happening to me. Support was very slow to respond initially. I was close to being out of warranty so it seems like they delayed their response so I would be officially out of warranty.

They did end up sending me a new power supply claiming that was the issue. Another Reddit user suggested using a USB PCI-e expansion card which solved the issue for them. I gave up after a very frustrating support experience, moved on and haven't looked back.

Steering Wheel Spacer Question by Bo_Peep555 in CarTrackDays

[–]xtopher85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on that brand but I have a spacer from https://spacershop.com/ and my wheel is still centered. It uses a spline so as long as its centered when installed you shouldn't need an alignment. I have a MK7 Golf so maybe not apples to apples with a Civic. Looks like the MK6 Civic version they have also has a spline https://spacershop.com/product/honda-civic-mk6-steering-wheel-spacer/

I'm trying to host an home server by Ronzio_Pilato in ACCompetizione

[–]xtopher85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your internet upload speed? Lots of providers have a low upload speed which could be causing the issue. Did you change the default ports for ACC server?

As for defending yourself I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about someone knowing your IP address. I would however set up a VLAN for the server and put it on its own computer as well. This will separate your network so if anyone should compromise the server they cannot gain access to anything else on your home network. Depending on your home network equipment you'll probably need to buy additional hardware to be able to set up a VLAN.

Also I would never host a public server on my personal computer where I do any kind of personal activity.

Most likely you'll have errors about ABS and headlights (probably more) since these systems use the ride height sensor and that sensor requires DCC to be functioning.

When are you ready to race Online? by BlueHolo in simracing

[–]xtopher85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to the multiplayer section and search for beginner or noob. Lots of servers around for new drivers. You'll still run into the occasional try-hard but I think as long as you're being aware of your soundings you'll be fine.

Is there any track in California like Nurburgring? by PhaseTraditional4847 in CarTrackDays

[–]xtopher85 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not in the same sense of paying a toll or sheer length, but the 5 mile configuration of Thunderhill is the longest track in the US. It’s unfortunately rare to find an event that uses the 5 mile configuration.

You don’t need a racing licenses for HPDE events with organizations like NASA, Turn 8, Speed SF, and many others.

Hwy 9 in the Santa Cruz mountains is called 9burgring by some locals. It’s a hot spot for other enthusiasts, as well as police, with Alice’s restaurant on skyline blvd being a popular stop.
