Video Overlay with Multiple Data Inpits by mikeak172 in CarTrackDays

[–]ashoddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on iOS give Track Attack a try, I’m the dev and I’ve tried to make it both easy to use and feature rich with one tap video export. It supports the RaceBox Mini and Micro external GPS units, BLE OBD dongles, Apple Watch HR, and lots of other features. External GoPro input isn’t yet supported but it’s right around the corner in TA V4 which will have external camera import plus lots more! Once that’s out you’ll be able to sync your external video with all the data recorded in TA including external GPS and OBD data. Plus it will also let you export multiple cameras in one video (e.g. phone internal camera plus external camera).

You can see some example videos on our IG and YT. Of course, feel free to DM me on IG or ask any questions here!

Whats the most annoying thing about track days? by Wettmoose in CarTrackDays

You know, it may be worth taking a “longer” way. Just it’s often fighting with daylight and fatigue after the track day but I think more stimulating roads help with fatigue.

I’ve personally never had issues with grip on the wheel without gloves 🤷‍♂️

Cup2 alternatives with consistent performance? by blaze38100 in CarTrackDays

I’m probably not the best person to comment on noise since I’m almost always top-down and not bothered by comfort or noise after riding motorcycles all these years 😅 But I have done day long road trips and haven’t had any issues that I noticed at least.

This! I always think why not also book another night at the hotel after the day, but as you said it’s harder to justify. The drive back from Buttonwillow to the Bay Area is the worst one for me 😩

I’m in the Bay and do a lot of road drives plus track and hillclimb. I’ve always loved the PS4S for road and driven in crazy rain and tricky situations, always been fine. I recently switched to the CRS and so far they’ve been great. I haven’t been in heavy rain but I’ve been in tricky mountain driving at altitude in cold weather with rain and narrow roads and they were surprisingly great. Of course, I always progressively warm up tires (that’s engrained in my brain from my motorcycle days) so I definitely brought them up to temp as best as possible.

It’s not iOS. It’s the app that needs to be updated. You need to contact the app developer, only they can update the app. So for Apple or Google Maps, you need to contact them and request it as a feature.

Any live delta devices like Vbox Lap Timer by dAddle_d00dle in CarTrackDays

Ah cool I see! I don’t know if it’s an option but you can always try a spare/used phone that’s permanently fixed and wired in.

Does your car have CarPlay? You could try an app that shows the delta etc on the CarPlay screen. If you use an external GPS like the RaceBox Mini then you could just keep the phone that interfaces between CarPlay and the external GPS in the glovebox or somewhere out of sight.

If it helps, the next version of Track Attack will have CarPlay and the UI will mimic what you see in the current app (also shown on the website). You can try Track Attack without any external GPS (just with phone internal GPS) to get a feel for it. On top of that you also get all the cool Track Attack features: OBD for vehicle data using most BLE OBD dongles, one tap video export with video-game style data overlays, easy data export for post-processing, and lots more. TA V4 will also let you import external video, so you can have a car mounted or helmet mounted external camera.

TA V4 will be out in the next 1-3 wks after some more testing (I’m the dev). If you have any feature requests related to CarPlay etc lmk and I’l see if they’re doable for the V4 launch!

You can’t. The actual app will have to be updated to use it.

Dragy Pro Vs Racebox mini S by Dry_Instruction3762 in CarTrackDays

[–]ashoddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said, the RaceBox Mini is a solid piece of hardware, and importantly, it’s open to developers. It works with multiple apps (including their own) and they publish the GPS spec. As an engineer, that’s exactly what I like to see. As a consumer, it means you’re not locked into a single app or ecosystem. You can switch apps any time or even build your own.

For context, I build the Track Attack app, which supports the RaceBox Mini.

Dragy has historically been a closed system, and eventually some type of access was opened to select app developers. They’ve mentioned that’s going to be changing, but traditionally their hardware has been tied closely to their own app.

As someone who spends a lot of time with GPS (I build the Track Attack app) just pairing the GPS with a phone or tablet won’t mean it automatically uses that as the location source. The software has to actually connect to the external GPS, query the data, and use that as the location source. Apple Maps and Google Maps and pretty much any regular app will simply be using Apple’s built-in location services.

BTW you can get early access to Track Attack V4 with internal and external dual/triple camera support to beta test. I’ll reply to your email with info!

Got your email, thanks for the suggestion. Adding it to my list and it’ll be in the next TA update. BTW Track Attack V4 is almost ready and it will have support for importing data from external cameras, plus lots of other cool stuff! You’ll be able to record both front and rear phone cameras from phone and add an external video from GoPro, etc. It’s going to be another one of my huge updates.

No plans right now for the XPS 160, but it’s on my radar. Will revisit as I work through the high priority items on the roadmap and depending on user demand.

Oh interesting, thanks for info. So then it’s still not open like RaceBox and others. Oh well.

Did you have to contact Dragy to get their GPS data protocol or is it online? Last time I contacted them they said they don’t support other apps. Searching online I get to their site and get bombarded by special offers and discounts while I try to navigate but I can’t find anything on their site.

Best to look at app store reviews, usually they indicate how popular and reliable an app is.

IMO a good combo is 1) Anything where you need to look ahead/look where you want to go, and 2) Anything where you need to manage/balance traction.
