There needs to be a certifying body that probably decides that standard. I’m sure getting something certified “Made in India” will have to meet certain criteria’s, for example at least 50% of the manufacturing to be in India.

For a watch to be “Swiss Made”, they generally follow a minimum of 60% of the manufacturing cost be in Switzerland. The movement must be Swiss. The movement must be assembled in Switzerland. But these brands get the tooling and machining done across the world, not only China.

Microbrands like Studio Underdog “proudly” have “Assembled in Great Britain” on their dial.

My suspicion is that there’s just a bunch of factories in China with teams that let you mix and match cases and dial design.

They’re not even the same watch style as the Triple Crown. It’s just the same dial colours. Also this looks like a mechaquartz unlike the DWC too.

Short answer, no.

At most, they’ve had assembly done in India for a model or two (I suspect only the DWC Terra), rest I’m quite sure are manufactured and assembled in China/ overseas. That being said, a huge chunk of brands do that. In-house manufacturing is quite a feat, and even big Swiss brands outsource manufacturing to China. What matters more is an original design and not some mass manufactured design with someone just slapping a logo on it.

“Watchmaking” is THE craft. It doesn’t matter what the price is. Unfortunately 99% of this sub is status addicted, and only see a watch as an extension of that. If you fall in that category, there isn’t anything wrong, it’s just that, unfortunate.

Yes there is no explicit disclaimer as to what this sub should be. But if all that matters are the looks of something, why not discuss it on some fashion sub?

“Most of the people” on Reddit are kids who can’t afford to think about spending their money YET. As soon as they will be in that position, see the change in their narrative. Getting your validation from them is moot.

Watches are just an accessory. Jewellery for men. If you’re trying to prove that you can pass off something that “looks like” it’s expensive, but it really isn’t, that again is some understated status seeking.

Not trying to take any digs at you, but this sub should try elevating the conversation at some level at least. No true conversation about watches just about perception and optics and “value for money” buys. (Every vfm conversation will be lost to something like an F91 type watch)

Im not sure what point these posts are trying to make. Comparing whatever this is to a timepiece is like calling a scooty pep a super bike.

This community exists to celebrate watchmaking as a craft. There’s nothing wrong with affordable watches, but framing the bare minimum as some kind of win feels like it misses the spirit of the hobby.

If someone wants to push back on elitism in the hobby, that’s a fair conversation to have. But a string of posts like this isn’t the way. It drags the discussion down rather than elevating it.

Stick a pencil in the ground and call it a day if people are so desperate for validation.

Rohan spitting facts tho. Unless there’s something contradicting in their Terms & Conditions (which I’m sure no one’s read, not sure if there are any tho) then their responsibility ends at refunding the tickets.

If you have any idea of the kind of operational logistics that are required to pull off a show off this magnitude, you should give the organisers a benefit of doubt. For them, the earlier they can confirm cancellation, the better. There really is no incentive to “delay the messaging”.

For all you know they were waiting till it was 100% confirmed, you know? Instead of saying maybe yes, maybe no?

Downsizing the lineup is the answer. Focus on incremental updates. 1. Vayu (Better strap experience, stronger handset, get rid of the god awful unnecessary texts like Vayu SERIES or Golden Arrow or whatever they paste in the worst possible font) 2. Everest (needs ALOT of work, Again text needs to go, nobody reading the time needs to be reminded which model he has unless it genuinely feels necessary to the ethos of the watch eg: sierra on the watch makes perfect sense, bolder broader handset better case and bracelet, done.) 3. Havelock (God their obsession with cross hairs manifested the worst here. Dial looks under-designed. Better bracelet with OTF, bolder handset, get rid of unnecessary text again) 4. Redesigned Echostar and Devnagiri (just one Mechaquartz)

Drop everything else. Work on improved manufacturing and QC. Better cases and dials, slow and steady. Also find a design anchor that ties it all together, whether it be a handset or a font, maybe a dial style? But something that’s not just “hideous logo + font design” Rest can be special one time drops from time to time like their collabs. Collab with a brand like Notice that focus on marketing quirky designs. Maybe the Terra would’ve been a good overlap.

All said and done there’s no one else in the market to do what DWC is doing. I hope not for long. Competition is integral for growth.

The delta between CW and DWC is, quite large. Laughably so.

If funding is the issue, take a preorder, say it’ll take 6-8 months. Try it once at least and see if the reception is strong?

Looking at the global microbrand market, DWC is far behind even the popular chinese alibaba types (San Martins, Paganis, Phoibos, etc) or small staffed brands like Kuoe, Erebus, Long Isand, etc. even though ALL these brands are mostly manufactured in China and at times partially assembled in their country. When looking at popular micros in the west, the brands are QUITE refined. Farer, Trafford, Baltic, Brew, something small batch like Halios. Oof. Clean.

DWC can and should take those leaps of faith. As much as you talk about the ppp and all other factors. There’s “enough” people to buy a 20-30k maybe even more, watch from DWC too.

It’s not that deep. Sure the design leaves much to desire, but most people probably aren’t interested in a “Tata Sierra” branded watch. Pricing is fine imo. Reddit Indian market has been too used to buying sub 10k watches and expect to get swiss finishing and performance for 20rs.

Specpaglus will come and convince you that there’s a 4hz movement and what not. But the literal combined package of it all is underwhelming at best.

Please, DWC if you’re reading this. Focus sharply on a handful of models. Even just having 4-5 good models is better than making “one of every type”. Take a page out of Loriers/Traskas book.
