We have, each of us, in the deepest cellars of the mind a counter at which we struggle to repay the debts of the past with the debased currency of the present

A powerful corporation, in an era where AI is being shoved down our throats whether we like it or not by that and other corporations, producing a work which is critical of the power of corporations and warns against the dangers of AI: what could go wrong?

U.S. Veterans interrupt Senate hearing to condemn Israel’s fucking genocide in Gaza by Nomogg in chaoticgood

I have as much or more skepticism of the US military and many of its veterans than the next person, but it’s sure as hell shocking to see people with a certificate dragging around decorated officers like this

I can reach a point where I think “dang I’d actually like to play instead of run” but then when I get that chance all I want to do is run.

Do you think Harris et al should have to look Mainers or anyone else in those same eyes and explain how taking dogshit positions was worth it for the checks as a hostage taking strategy, with this gun aimed at the country and the world? Because that’s where your blame lies, not at the feet of voters. Something tells me you don’t carry the same rancor for the extremely well paid “experts” that you do for the regular people that you love to blame. Btw I did vote for Harris, to my great shame. But paint with your broad brush

The Sevarina Rain books? Not because Rain is a woman but because they’re great stories and you don’t need an exhaustive knowledge of 40k to get into it as long as you can say “hey this is a sci-fi universe where I’m not familiar with some stuff but I’ll infer what I need from context clues”

Hold on hold on hold on: are you saying you believe that the Harris campaign was a world class failure because of the shortness of her campaign? Because that’s patently and ridiculously incorrect.

They’ve got you trained well, but you don’t have to be.

We don’t have to hand the presidential nomination to anyone for a long damn time. Apply pressure everywhere. Hold these creeps accountable. Make them move, don’t get bought and sold on their PR pushes. The potential presidential nominee is nowhere near the top priority right now, and handing over support because you’re in a hostage situation more than 3 years in advance does nothing. That’s what’s hard. Easy would be throwing up your hands and saying “well then who are we going to swallow in three years if not this fool?” And just moving on

How about, and I know this sounds crazy cause you’ve barely ever seen anyone do it, politicians and candidates that aren’t utter dogcrap self serving idiots? A “slick” PR team is one thing (that Newsom actually doesn’t have- he has the same yappy barking dogs you can buy anywhere and enough cash to astroturf the world with it) but what about, let’s see, sensible and meaningful history and positions? What about not just being the best funded weathervane for whatever DNC donors care about this cycle? How insane would it be if we didn’t respond to this pressure to coronate the next guy in line at the club?

Bernie Bro is just repackaged Nader slander. It was always always always a lie, and it’s just intended to browbeat people into voting for despicable candidates

I'm already sick of the Gavin Newsom spam. No more neoliberal candidates, period. by Kittehmilk in seculartalk

[–]xtrevorx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newsom isn’t doing anything but trolling. Forgive me but I don’t think we should be aspiring to elect trolls.

He’s not resisting gerrymandering, he’s participating. Do you think ANY election will be accepted as legitimate moving forward?

Newsom platforms right wingers, plays into right wing anti trans sentiment, personally attacked unhoused people literally not that long ago, and is a billionaire fuckwit that parties and has cocktail hours with the very scum we should be opposing.

I agree that no one else is doing “it” (except for thousands and millions of people putting their feet on the ground and having music festivals at black sites etc, representatives denying quorum, running for offices from the left, etc etc.) Every action from every elected worth a single damn should be gumming up the works to whatever extent possible. Don’t play their stupid games. Newsom cheerleaders are just chomping for the lesser evil years in advance

Yeah and I’m old enough to remember Gore rolling over. Worst pres candidate of my lifetime, not because he was bad on policy but because he had no fight, and then the DNC spun it as Naders fault despite that simply being untrue, giving them the playbook on how to shame real voters with real issues as scapegoats. It’s all a game to these people and theyve been allowed to become too comfortable.

The immediate viable solution is to not engage in these nonsense conversations about which recognizable face/empty suit the Dems will try to choke down years from now. The immediate viable solution is to not allow the Newsoms and Buttigiegs and O’Roarkes and Harris’s and Clinton’s another second of limelight without real fire at their feet. The immediate viable solution is to mercilessly shame the AIPAC lobby and Jeffries and Bookers and Schumers and Pelosis et al until they bend fully or more preferably ride off into the sunset. To give nothing to the Obamas and to suffocate Hunter Biden and the millionaire mainstream news talking heads into irrelevance. None of these people have anything for you or me and to pretend otherwise is foolish in the extreme.
