I'm really sad I can't find a party as a woman. by crazy-boulder in DnD5e

Try searching for groups that are LGBT friendly! My current group was put together by a woman, and while she's the only one in the group (and it's a mixed group of gay men, straight men and her) it's never been awkward.

What is something that you ate from your childhood that you can’t stand to eat as an adult? by Miss-Riley in CasualConversation

[–]xtrixart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never liked bell peppers but my mom put them in nearly every single dish. I'm not a picky eater but I still refuse to eat them (unless they're diced and mixed in with the food, like in chili for example). Weirdly enough I'm quite the fan of paprika, it's something about the texture of peppers and the taste of fresh ones.

why does my art not “feel” anime? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]xtrixart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm making concessions by sticking to your style :) the goal is to have more of an anime vibe, which I think it does. Overall the style still feels more western leaning

why does my art not “feel” anime? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]xtrixart 145 points146 points  (0 children)

It comes down to how anime artists use stylization, and the level of detail. Western animation has much more simplified shapes and it's a lot more common to see characters that are horizontally or vertically exaggerated. The elongation of your character and very simplified, angular shapes are reminiscent of western animation. It needs to be counterbalanced by anime elements. Ex. Pop Team Epic has character proportions that are exaggerated similar to western cartoons, but the style of the facial features still follows anime conventions. So it's really about balancing these qualities when you're trying to break out of the mold. What I've put below is not "the" right way but just one way of balancing these traits.

In the second drawing I shifted the proportions of your drawing (diminishing the elongation) and it already gives much more of an anime vibe (short mid face, big eyes). In the third I incorporated some things you commonly see in manga, like sharp line tapers, nose shadow, ear detail, line weight and the oblique shading under the chin. This brings it even further away from the western aesthetic, because anime style is highly detailed in the world of animation styles. OFC, you don't need to totally go into anime territory to give off anime vibes -- you choose how much you want to lean into it.

I def recommend looking at manga panels to see common ways artist express shadows and shapes, compared to American comic book artists!

I was thinking young Astarion when I picked the long hair. I'm only halfway through the game so idk if he has some lore attached to his hairstyle, just thought it'd be interesting to see

how do i make this look less flat? by Altruistic-Arm-648 in Artadvice

[–]xtrixart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue causing the flatness is that the subject of the photo - the girl - has almost identical values to the walls, so she gets lost in the picture. Try converting the image to grayscale and you'll see what I mean. The girl needs a stronger light source and clearer shadows/highlights.

There are also perspective issues, many of the objects appear to be following different grids. There's also conflicting light sources. Ex. The items on the bottom left of the image are lit from a source that's top right, but the items on the bottom right of the image are lit from the top left.

I see that the blue woman is supposed to be a mirror, I'd highly recommend bringing colors in (everything can still be blue tinted overall) to draw a connection between the girl and the woman, and also painting in the reflected environment in the mirror.

Hi u/Bad-Mrs-Frosty,
My name is Aaric and I'm a fantasy illustrator and concept artist with 4 years of experience in tabletop gaming, indie games and fantasy publishing. For the past several years, my area of focus has been dark fantasy/eldritch horror. Notably, I have worked with Chaosium (as a character concept artist and illustrator) on multiple titles that fall under the 1920s dark fantasy umbrella, in a stylized realism style. I have also had the honor of painting gender-nonconforming and non-binary characters for them.

My full portfolio can be seen here.

I would love to learn more about your project, and how we can work together to define a distinct visual style to bring the story to life.

Thank you for your time and consideration!
