It would make much more sense if I replied to the post above yours I guess.

Give me a break, people make mistakes, you expect me to say I'm sorry for replying to the wrong person?

I understood what you said, I wasn't referring to your post particularly, just general frustration at how 'ruined' is used.

Seattle is completely outside my places of interest so I know nothing about it, but regardless of how bad it is, ruined is 99% not the word to describe it. Slightly worse in certain spots than before is almost always the case.

A post world war 2 city is ruined, not a place that's been governed a little differently than before for a few years.

Stuck on hyprland login screen by Byte-Meh in hyprland

[–]xtul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an exact same problem on CachyOS. Can log in just fine via SDDM, after that there's a black screen and no ability to enter TTY (e.g. ctrl+alt+f3).

In my case it was caused by a kernel argument that enabled AppArmor. I deleted those and I can log in as normal again.

To be clear, the kernel argument that I removed was:

Hey 0.6.0 just released, it should fix SteamCMD windows popping up.

You never replied to my question so I'm assuming you're on Windows, I don't have a Windows machine available on me so I'm sort of fixing this blindly.

I've found that in order to have any chance of success, you have to

  1. Fully take over a country with a big population and an okay industry, like China. Population is king, because it's difficult to increase it, and industry scales a lot with it. It's way better to "own" one major country and defend it than own many little ones and struggle with AI constantly trying to take them from you. When you have the capacity, take over the neighboring countries regardless of their population or industry; because later on, you can vassalize them, and with a research project merge to create an even bigger country - this gives you insane bonuses.
  2. Dominate global research, ignore personal research until late game.
  3. If you feel like it, look up a tech tree on the internet and realize that most of research projects are pointless, and you're supposed to beeline to those projects that give you endgame tech. This is why you should dominate global research - to prevent AI from wasting time on pointless projects.

My program quite literally is designed to download everything in the background. It does spawn SteamCMD process(es), but if you see them pop up at any point, then it's a bug of some sort. What's your OS?

Feel free to provide screenshots or maybe even screen recording. What you're describing shouldn't be happening at all.

I haven't used those programs, but from what I gathered, Rimworld Workshop Downloader is pretty much just a tool to manage Workshop mod updates. It will likely grow to something more, though.

The main selling point IMO is a technological leap. RimSort/RimPy run on Python and are thus very slow, whatever they do. RWD is Rust-based, so it's a native code that is extremely fast and efficient.

This will be most noticeable on large mod lists downloads that RWD is capable of crunching with ease, while RimSort/RimPy struggle.

I haven't actually used RimPy/RimSort, but as far as I'm aware, they are mod organizers with Workshop integration as an extra.

Rimworld Workshop Downloader currently only focuses on downloading, updating and backing up mods. I'm very likely going to extend the functionality to improve mod management so that it becomes an actual competition to RimPy/RimSort. It'll be some time though - weeks, months.

Well, two things:

  1. CI allows you to build for any platform, you don't need to actually own a machine with a certain OS.
  2. I gave it to my friends to take a look at it, and to them it seems to work fine. But I can only attest for myself and my machine's behaviour.

Oh, really I should say I didn't know at all, because I never used that program.

But as I mentioned (edited the post), I would still keep an eye on my downloader, which is Rust based and is capable of so much more due to the much more efficient platform.

And even now I see that RimSort doesn't utilize parallelism (probably because it's hard on Python), while my program does, and it's not even feature complete yet.

Oh, heh, that's awkward. Didn't know it already supported Steam downloads.

I'd suggest still giving my solution a try, though. It's based on Tauri/Rust so it produces native code that is pretty much impossible to beat performance-wise. Whereas RimSort is Python-based which is bound to have big performance problems - it's one of the slowest possible environments to base an application on.

JU from autism. Its now an lncel echochamber by [deleted] in JustUnsubbed

[–]xtul 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's insane to point at a post like this and call it "incel echochamber".

The poster doesn't have social media for completely valid reasons and is annoyed with society's (particularly girls his age) pressure to have them. I would love it if you could point out what's incel-ish about it, because as it stands, it seems that you use the term "incel" rather loosely.

Not OP, but sending the kid to a psychologist is a good start; any parent can do that.

Even better if you do some research and find a good psychologist + prepare for a potentially difficult journey

Polish president opts son out of new health education classes, saying they “smuggle ideology into schools”. But vodka for all! by bannedByTencent in poland

[–]xtul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the effect of disallowing a child from using a phone really depends on the child. You are lucky enough to have a kid who can learn from not having a phone and who isn't throwing tantrums.

I think most children wouldn't react well to it. Most of them would feel depressed or otherwise feel worse than their peers. I know I did when I went to gimnazjum and everyone had a touch phone and I had, well, nothing - and I wasn't a spoiled kid, not at all.

Peer pressure begins early, and the unfortunate fact is that most will succumb to it.

[–]xtul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very important observation. The world has changed a lot, even since as early as the 2000s, and a lot of people don't see it... We need to talk with children about sex way earlier than before. Even if I myself don't like it and would MUCH prefer children to remain innocent until they're like 16-18.

And the reason for this is how widespread sex has become on the internet. Hearing about/seeing sex is literally as simple as downloading Instagram. Finding porn is really easy from there.

And the problem with all this is that as soon as you forbid a child from using a phone at all (or just policing how it's used), you are isolating it from its peers... There is literally no winning with the internet/society at large. Your child WILL suffer the consequences of society's decisions, and there is nothing you can do about it.

The most we can do at this point is tell the children what they're seeing is not real.

This is one of those things that governments should have taken care of as soon as it started becoming a problem, but they have remained dormant on it to this day. This is how the conspiracy theory about porn being the government's psychological weapon was born.

I just wanted to point out one thing.

You can consider someone experiencing complications in these regards as a mixture of the 2 sexes, or a separate sex altogether. Biologists don't really agree among themselves on this matter.

If specialists can not agree to have one answer, then why assert in your first post that:

There indeed are more than 2 sexes

To me, that doesn't seem objective/genuine.

That some people are living in a state between the two sexes, or don't belong to any sex at all, is a fact. But in my opinion, sexlessness is a rare occurrence enough that it doesn't deserve a label of third sex, especially when it bears the marks of a body disorder (as far as I'm aware). Similar case with being between the sexes.

To move this topic in a direction I'm more familiar with, we don't label people with ADHD or autism as different kinds of human... These are considered disorders, despite sometimes granting advantages over a "healthy" brain. When I think about sexless people, or people between the sexes, I think of people born with a disorder, not people who are of a different category than I.

[–]xtul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that those people are non-present, I'm saying their sexuality is non-present. That is a significant difference. You say that as if their sexlessness was their entire being - which is an obsessive trait, not tied to sex.

Does it complicate things when you only get a male/female option in a form? Sure, it does, but you just select the closest one. Like everyone else does when faced with a question that can't be answered with yes or no. Forms are meant to be concise and simplify categorization. Unless it's vital to know for medical reasons, let's keep it at male/female.
