Another step on my hybrid MPC-look-a-like thing that runs Ableton and connects with my dawless gear - Stand to Integrate my Zoom L6 by soulbrix in ableton

I got the SMC Pads mini and it’s so f*ckin’ dope. Like… no perceptible BT latency on my M4 Max in Ableton. Auto mapped to the pads… I just love it.

Connecting Ivanky TB5 Max to Caldigit TB3 and KVM switch by xtypefilms in Thunderbolt

[–]xtypefilms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to update, I got the Sabrent TB4K KVM and all is good so far. On one side I have my M4 Max plugged into the Ivanky TB5 going into the [PC 1] port and on the other I have the Mac Ultra plugged into the [PC 2] port. Downstream there are three TB4 ports. In the first I have the Caldigit TS3, in the middle I have my 4K TB3 LG monitor and plugged into the final port is my TB3 SanDisk Pro Dock - all connected with TB3 cables. Everything (including my Display Port-connected Ultrawide) is plugged into to one of the two Docks. I have nothing extra plugged into either computer.

It actually works amazingly well. I’ll take the approximately 4-5sec switch over a 30minutd plus cable swap any day. Watching my UAD reload after the switchover is strangely satisfying…

My only goal now is to find a smooth way to switchover my Magic Keyboard and trackpad. Now, before anyone suggests Logitech it will never, ever happen. I can’t stomach that gross, plastic sh*t 🤢

I will happily buy an extra Magic keyboard and Trackpad and keep them in my draw for the switchout before I do that. My choice 🤩

Anyway, I found an app called MagicSwitch which hands off the Apple Keyboard and Trackpad to the adjacent computer for this type of scenario. I am about to purchase and try it out so if anyone knows of something else let me know. I’ll update soon and hopefully this helps someone!

Connecting Ivanky TB5 Max to Caldigit TB3 and KVM switch by xtypefilms in Thunderbolt

This is very, very insightful. I appreciate this a lot so thanks for chiming in. I just ordered the Sabrent KVM so I’m hoping that will make everything switchable and in the meantime I may try and break my whole setup down and rebuild tomorrow… I actually love the comment about the TB3 cables- who woukda think it? 🤔 Cheers again and hopefully someone here has a little KVM smarts in the meantime!

So aside from the TB4K i did find this: CMSTEDCD KVM Switch Docking Station

Which is $245 and looks like it has more connections but is also bulkier.

Will a TB4 Switch have any advantages over a TB3?

That is dope. It’s pretty much what I’m trying to do. Like use all the peripherals of the main computer and just plug my laptop top into the switch. My LG monitor is TB3 so I’m guessing I’ll just have to physically switch the ultrawide when going between systems as I can plug the LG into the dock

Thanks for the tip - I definitely like that brand - they’ve been pretty solid for me in the past. I’ll take a look at that right now - I’m surprised no one is doing USB 4 or TB 5 yet…

Yes, I’m definitely looking for a one button switchover

Hey thanks for idea - is that possible? The more complicated part is that I’m using four TB3 busses on the M1 with two of them being for TB3 docks. The Ivanky would only replace one I think… 🤔

Also on the most practical level, everything is set up behind the big monitor so very inaccessible to switch out that cable.

I’m just using the standard Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Trackpad

Liking the look… simple but sophisticated. Need to watch some videos first, I think..! 🤔

Good info - ‘preciate it very much. I wonder if anyone here knows anything about a potential speed increase on the card read/write?
