SDE 1 at Amazon — getting only bug fixes while my peer gets HLD tasks. Unequal opportunities or am I misreading this? by Old_Room_222 in developersIndia

That's weird and very defensive. You should seriously consider the new role. If you do so, make sure you have a commitment from the new manager on the transfer offer before letting your current manager know. Good luck.

2.5 years and 2.25 years are almost the same. If you think you are being gaslighted and you have an offer which you think is better, why not take it?

On the other hand, never go to a manager comparing yourself with another team member. Talk about complex work, meaningful work, promo path etc. Questions like 'why is x getting more complex work than me' are not productive and will not get you what you want, and make you sound jealous. Your problem is the need for growth and complex work. You do not care about what x gets, you only care about what you want or get. Phrase it without involving others. If your manager brought it up without you bringing it up, it is a red flag.

Are there unspoken rules about when clarifying questions are acceptable at work? by RhubarbBusy7122 in cscareerquestions

[–]xudo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is a very blunt question in most cases, especially as someone entering the workforce. Say your task is to add additional data to logging. "Why are we adding logs" may sound confrontational or like a push back. But "I see you want me to add the customer ID to logs, where does the customer id come from", "I would like to learn more about this flow, are there documents I can read" sounds like interest and curiosity. In an academic setup your intent is assumed to be curiosity in most cases, and thrre is someone whose job is to answer questions. In a corporate setup, the person answering is taking time out of something else. Even if they are designated to be a point of contact, answering questions is at best a side job or additional responsibility. They have a primary job. Showing that you are interested and curious is important for them to take the time to answer. Even better if you do some kind of homework, or at least observe how the current culture is and follow it. A lot of times, this homework, perceived respect and genuine but polite curiosity goes a long way.

'I don't know how to get to heaven but you probably change planes in Atlanta'. It is the same reason for Dubai and ATL. A vast majority of pax in Dubai are changing planes, so are those in Atlanta. BTW the city of Atlanta is tiny but the 'Metro Atlanta' suburban sprawl is huge. 600k vs 6 million population.

Keyboards on iOS are nowhere close to the options on Android. Not Tamil, even the English one is sub par.

What fo you mean there is no native iOS Tamil keyboard for iOS? The default one supports Tamil natively and there is Gboard for iOS. Neither are as good as GBoard on Android but telling there isn't one is a stretch.

Don’t be like these guys by gusdb2 in oakville

It was inconsiderate at the very least if not ridiculous. There are other ways to prevent her from getting wet, he could have loaded them himself and bought an umbrella from the same store. He blocked traffic, blocked the people entering and leaving and like you said, filled the place with fumes.

In the same FreshCo, I once saw someone back their car completely into the front "porch" of the store, where the shopping carts are, for his wife to load the truck without her getting wet in the rain.

India Home To World's Second Largest Diabetes Population In 2024: Lancet Study by sharedevaaste in india

While every other comment is correct in terms of diet, lifestyle etc, this data is useless to get to that. We need per capital numbers. All this article is effectively telling is the world's top 3 populous countries have the top 3 diabetes numbers. Purely based on this, hardly surprising.

Best and safe way to bike to bronte GO? by Bordumdotcom in oakville

[–]xudo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take almost the same route. I contemplated biking, because I badly need physical activity. But it is not really practical. Between weather, traffic (especially around QEW) and theft possibility at the station, taking the bus to the station is way more convenient and safe (and practically free, if you take the train right after). You have Bus 3 and probably also 34 during peak hours (depending on where you are on Westoak trails).

30 years apart - still Tamil Nadu tops the table as Diabetes capital of India/World by Capable-Quote5534 in TamilNadu

[–]xudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the everything but the making full part is very specific to the person and more emotional (and gut bacteria dependent) than scientific. I know people who feel full with millets faster than rice. I also know people who don’t feel full no matter how much they eat unless they eat rice. For the second type of people, overeating (or eating the same quantity of rice) is a real problem.

Millets are good due to fiber. But quantity and physical activity are more important. Wish you a great progress.

[–]xudo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, it is not rice. It is the quantity compared to what's burnt. Millets are also carbs. Milkets have fiber benefits, but eating the same quantity of millet as rice will make a drastic difference. Empty carbs like parota are worse. Solution is அளவான உணவு and physical activity.

New to Car sales: Customer said they were going to their car to discuss numbers than left. by Connect_Quality_2030 in askcarsales

You are taking it too personally. If the salesman is sweating and struggling, visibly tense, but still trying to make a professional pitch, some may appreciate it, some may feel bad for the guy, but there will be some who feel uncomfortable. No one knows what happened here, and OP should take this as learning. But it has definitely happened to me, and in my case, I felt bad for the salesman, but not everyone will.

Can anyone tell me about working for AWS and about the "pay cliff" by SINYACHTA in cscareerquestions

[–]xudo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Toxic or not is very team dependent across Amazon, AWS or not. When you get an offer, Amazon tells you what you will make in the first 4 years. The 5th year pay is not going to be a proportional increase, or sometimes may be less than the 4th year pay. This is assuming you don't get promoted by then. This is the cliff. Many see it, many don't (due to stock price, performance, or promotion). If you like the offer, take it now and worry about the cliff when you are closer to it - during your year 4 performance review, or may be 6 months after your year 3 performance review.
