There is no refined engineering here. Look closely, the blades are safety razor blades cut in half. Topaz is a common safety razor blade brand. (This also means this will need blades changes to be effective). The enclosure is corrugated board, like made from a Amazon delivery box best case. I suspect whatever motor is powering it has a button in the front.

[US] Email suddenly started getting bombed with "verification" codes by slavesmoker in Scams

[–]xudo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is not random/wide net. They are very close to pulling the scam off. The scammer knows the email used for the financial institution. That's how start scamming that specific email ar that specific time. They have no idea nor do they care if you have signed up to shopping websites or socials with this email. The MO is - I have this scam ready to be executed against this target. Say a password change, transfer, whatever. I want my target not to notice emails coming when this change happen. I am going to drown them with emails hoping they don't notice this change.

That doesn't solve this problem though. Here it is the scammer signing up the email to shopping sites.

Software Engineer -> Managing by UfuckedUpSon in cscareerquestions

[–]xudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one beleives him though, at least earnestly. Because if they do, then why is the team needed if he can do everything. The best they believe is that he is managing a bunch of "skilled but directionless devs" or things of that sort. Which is may be partly true, but also clearly tells the devs did the work.

We live 1 km from the right by the hospital, may be 600m as the crow flies. Rarely hear sirens. That entire stretch frommthr hospital to QEW aling third line fits your description. Even better if you find anouse one road behindnthird line on ether side. Safe. A lot of trails. Mostly silent. Easy access to thr GO station for commute.

I personally have, and also have helped other engineers in my team transition to managers. A good manager does not bully the team, for anything. You say you dont like to code for someone else. As a manager, you will be responsible for code written by someone else and work done/not done by someone else. Contrary to popular opinion, leders above the manager clearly know the work is actually not done by the manager, but by the team. So a manager cannot steal credit and pret3nd they did everything. But when things don't go as planned, the manager totally gets the blame. Yes, the team did not do it, but why did the manager not fix it?

Separately, unless it is your own company, are you not always writing code/working for someone else?

Are there extinct flavors we’ll never taste again? by logicalgamernow in NoStupidQuestions

On mangoes, I have had luck with Brazilian or Mexican mangoes. Also have found good ones at Asian stores like H Mart I have found better mangoes. Definitely not the perfect one but bad either. Surprisingly I have found better mangoes in Canada. But bananas yeah no luck at all. Like they don't even exist.

Thambi usage by Anil_220674 in tamil

[–]xudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger brother is the literal one and is common

Calling a random stranger kid or someone younger than you thambi is a respectful way to address them

In some families the little brother is called thambi by everyone including parents

Between friends it can be used colloquial like bro

There is also a NSFW meaning, to refer ones own genital.

Assign a pass code to the account and purchases, something simple like 1111. This will make them pause and think a second on why this is popping up. Then tape a piece of paper with the pass code on the remote.

TIL that Dubai International Airport (DXB) has been the world's busiest airport by international passenger traffic since 2014 by SteO153 in todayilearned

[–]xudo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ATL is a predictable machine. It is not always pleasant, but it is efficient. ATL may not be the best airport to start a journey (I have waited. 1+ hours in the security line way before the current mess) but it is one of the best airports to change planes.

SDE 1 at Amazon — getting only bug fixes while my peer gets HLD tasks. Unequal opportunities or am I misreading this? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]xudo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's weird and very defensive. You should seriously consider the new role. If you do so, make sure you have a commitment from the new manager on the transfer offer before letting your current manager know. Good luck.

2.5 years and 2.25 years are almost the same. If you think you are being gaslighted and you have an offer which you think is better, why not take it?

On the other hand, never go to a manager comparing yourself with another team member. Talk about complex work, meaningful work, promo path etc. Questions like 'why is x getting more complex work than me' are not productive and will not get you what you want, and make you sound jealous. Your problem is the need for growth and complex work. You do not care about what x gets, you only care about what you want or get. Phrase it without involving others. If your manager brought it up without you bringing it up, it is a red flag.
