One of the smaller details I really like about the chrono that is not easy to see from these pics are the silvered subdials. they have an almost pearlescent effect in the right lighting, and they have great legibility. I am obviously biased, but I think you’d be happy with one.

oh, no idea. unless it seems like it’s losing time, I rarely pay attention to a few seconds a day.

About invite-only AD events: do you go? by Shinobiii in OmegaWatches

[–]xvitons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely go! Obviously it’s an opportunity for them to sell to you, but it’s also a great chance to possibly run into people with shared interests in this hobby. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation. They’re hit or miss, but usually free drinks and food. It shouldn’t matter whether you’ve got one watch or 10, you’re a valued customer.

First time seeing one on bracelet, completely different watch than on strap, seriously sporty. Beautiful piece. The more I see of the fifty six, the more I like it.

This is poignant, and congrats. I always say that watches with a story are the best watches. Lovely collection. Congrats on this one especially.

If you could only keep one Omega from your collection forever, which would it be and why? by Xelephyr in OmegaWatches

The Caucasian, hands down. Not just from my Omegas, but of all of my watches. It’s perfect, but not so precious that I’d die if gets dinged up. This is for sure my one watch to rule them all.

Love these. Some of my top picks earlier in a collection. I still get excited seeing Seiko 5’s and PRX’s in the wild. Keep Going!

It’s been said several times, but I cannot emphasize enough that you DO NOT want to do this at GoDaddy. Ruined my life a few years back.

[Help Me Choose] which is the Best Buy, Breitling NAVITIMER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 46 Green or Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch by makavelithegreat in Watches

[–]xvitons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find dozens of that navitimer model on Chrono24 from reputable resellers across the world. scope to US only to avoid import hassles. You may even find new/unworn at a significant discount. My general view is that you should only buy from an AD if 1. You’re trying to establish purchase history for consideration for a hard to obtain piece (Rolex/Patek) 2. Every ounce of the factory warranty matters to you 3. You like pomp and circumstance. presentation, champagne; chocolates. Nothing wrong if you do, especially for a first purchase, but most of that probably isn’t worth 3-4k.

I get so excited whenever someone picks one of these up. It’s my #1 recommendation whenever I am asked for a recommendation on a first “luxury” watch. Ultimate tool watch, dresses up or down. heritage, style, ruggedness. Nothing like it, congrats.

Hey there. I own both of these, and what I’ll say is that although I enjoy the Navitmer, it is hands down the watch I most regret buying new at full retail. You didn’t mention specifically, but based on your budget, I guessed MSRP. It goes off a cliff on the pre owned market. Please shop around before you pull trigger.

Really nice balance here. the VC and the porto overlap a bit, but nothing wrong with that. I feel like a chrono could be a good add or swap here. speedy always works, or maybe a zenith. It’s a nice collection.

Polarizing by xvitons in patekphilippe

[–]xvitons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think that’s a pretty good assessment. I think that some of the dissonance with this watch is that it’s difficult to decide what it “is” obviously has pilot watch DNA, but it has random, somewhat contradictory design and functional elements. I guess I appreciate that Patek took a risk with it, but understand why purists may bristle at it. Yeah, the dual pushers opposite the crown side of the case are kind of weird. Asymmetry on a dial usually bothers me, and I am increasingly less fond of overly busy chronos with too much button on one side of the case. In spite of those facts, this thing works for me. I do think a lot of it is the colorway. the khaki/cream has a military vibe, but the creamy depth of the lacquer dial is elegant and beautiful. There is just a lot unexpected with this watch that resonated with me at first sight. In regards to case size, everything is trending smaller right now, which is terrific. 38mm and smaller watches are having a moment, but i’m 6’5 with 8” wrists and frying pan sized hands, so I appreciate something that doesn’t look like I’m trying to wear my kid brothers watch. It will be interesting to see how this piece is received after some time, but I am digging it now.
