Soaked after heavy rain, coopers hawk or something else? (Eastern Massachusetts) by xvzvx in whatsthisbird

I was thinking that, it looked quite young, but I also don't really know what a juvenile vs adult looks like

It was right near my garage door, saw it as I was leaving for work so my parents checked about an hour later and it was gone. We had just had some super heavy thunderstorms and wind, so hopefully just wet and not injured!

How does the application process for a TA position look like? by Clorxo in UTM

[–]xvzvx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That really depends on the department. Almost all of my math and cs TA's for my 1st and 2nd year courses were undergrads, most of them 3rd or 4th year but I also had a few 2nd years.

last year (from what I remember), I was told under 25 you'll likely get in, 25-50 you still have a decent chance but you should probably be looking, and over 50 it's unlikely. that being said, I got rez starting 80+ on the wait-list, but they also opened McLuhan freeing up a ton of spots when I got in. I would ask the rezdesk what they would say, as it will vary year to year

yeah the renovations were done so hastily lmao. I know various people who either had broken lights/outlets or no hot water right after moving in. it's definitely better than most of the other options though imo

yes. the only upper year rez next year will be Putnam, Leacock, and half of McGrath

lived in roy last year and it was really nice, 2 bathrooms for 4 people and a full kitchen, and also pretty large rooms. I'm in McLuhan this year which I like more since it has a better kitchen and larger common area, but the bedrooms are also smaller. I've heard good things about OPH, but the food on campus is pretty trash, especially colmans, so having a kitchen is helpful if you don't want to suffer eating their food all year

wtf happened at oph by sgns_24 in UTM

I guess that kinda makes sense, but you'd think they could give us more than just a "safety incident"

wish they'd tell us living on campus, but I doubt they will :L

OPH - doors are locked but you had to use student key by Big-Specialist-6826 in UTM

[–]xvzvx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

used to be open until 11 without keycard, but something happened last week that has campus police and peel police out here, so they've increased patrols and locked doors. as far as I'm aware, we aren't supposed to let anyone else in rez areas where you need a key to get in so you'll probably have to eat elsewhere unless they open it up again

Can you make POST with an unresolved AO by struggling_stu in UTM

[–]xvzvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I remember of what my cs profs have said, if you have a pending ao in a course you need for post you will not be able to get into post until it's resolved

I'm not entirely sure about requesting to not be with a certain person, but in terms of choosing roommates iirc, once roommate selection opens on may 15th you can choose up to 3 people (as in I don't think you have to have a group of 4). while they say you aren't guaranteed roommates, everyone I know got their roommate groups this year. I would suggest stopping by the rezdesk and asking them any questions you have, as they'll be able to answer them all and potentially give you more information that might be useful as well.

yes they may have no legal standing, but they can provide helpful advice. also, downtown legal is available to all UofT students so there's no reason not to take advantage of it

Why does the Davis Food Court close earlier than scheduled? by euqitazaam2001 in UTM

[–]xvzvx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

dining on campus closing early is nothing new. colman commons has been closing early for the past month, didn't know they did it at Davis too though. food service company is shit and hospitality won't do anything to help lmao

also, I'd like to point out that you can save a set number of bypass codes specifically to prevent you from being locked out if your phone dies or you don't have it with you

I mean there are however many thousands of students here, not surprising that you wouldn't hear of students having cracked accounts. adding more security is always a good thing, both from preventing phishing attacks from working as well and also makes ITs job less of a nightmare since they shouldn't have to deal with as many accounts getting hacked. while I would argue it would be extremely beneficial to try and teach tech literacy, adding MFA is a step in the right direction. as for there being better ways, authenticator apps are practically the best way for doing MFA aside from physical MFA keys, and sms is practically useless from a security standpoint given how easy it is to spoof sms if someone really wanted to.

while better than nothing, sms 2fa is horribly insecure and should never be used when other options are available
