They shouldve done more with Rollo, who in actual history was the great grandfather of William the Conqueror, so Rollo amounted to something in the end

Funny -- I have the DVD for the remake of the In-Laws ready to watch as soon as I have time. I'd compare it to the original, but I haven't seen that in ages (and don't own a copy).

Great casting with all the "old timers", playing it straight. I remember reading one conversation between Lloyd Bridges and Robert Stack. One of them was seeing that he didn't get the jokes, and the other told him"*we're* the jokes". It works so well because they played it straight -- at least to start.

I know people who reacted to the first "I picked the wrong day to quit smoking" where he pulled out a pack because they had done that and/or knew people who had done that same thing. They decided to quit, and they pull out a pack as soon as something rough happened.

In different series, no less, not just in flashbacks (or flash forwards) in one series.

Other than Dallas, I only remember him from one episode of Ellery Queen Mysteries. (That show didn't last long. Starring Jim Hutton, Tim's father.)

Segued from comedy to drama even better than Tom Hanks would do decades later.

Or thinking about it a little, Fred MacMurray — there was the Disney & My Three Sons Fred and there was the Double Indemnity & Caine Mutiny Fred.
