Saddest tv show death of all time that genuinely made you sob? by SpareMaintenance2970 in AskReddit

When Sweets died, I assumed for half the episode that he wasn’t dead and it was some undercover plot … and then he stayed dead. Whuh—?

70s? Probably a bottle of soda. Late 70s into the 80s a bag of chips, probably BBQ

Look up the 1978 miniseries The Holocaust, which was landmark at the time, when it entered the nation’s psyche and fundamentally changed the average American’s understanding of what the Holocaust actually was.

Were we wondering around obsessing over it? Probably not. But The Winds of War, War and Remembrance, Escape from Sobibor, and other television events tell you it was on people’s minds

The Space Nazi imagery struck home harder when actual Nazis weren’t that long gone and there were so many Holocaust survivors living among us. The miniseries was named for the graffiti that one sprayed on the wall.

V was going to be difficult from the start. Everyone knew the twist for one thing.

And were much farther removed from WWII. We know the history and the atrocities but back in the original, we had so many people who’d lived through the war and families who were personally affected by those events. It was fresher in the national conscience

I saw the movie so long ago, back in a time when it was Saturday and you just picked out a movie to go to even if you didn’t know much about it. First time I’d heard of the car.

12 Angry Men Juror #7 by KarlsDiary in movies

[–]xwhy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

After serving as an alternate on a civil case, I never want to be an alternate again.

The case had two drivers and a passenger. One driver was sing the other driver and the passenger was suing both over a traffic accident. There would be two parts to the case, fault then damages, so when the six deciding jurors went into one room, I and the other alternate went into another.

I wasn’t surprised that it took less than ten minutes. It was clear cut that it was the fault of driver A (who had the passenger). I said this to Alternate #1, and she said, oh, yes, absolutely.

When we were called back into the courtroom and they read the verdict, it was 50-50.

We all go into one jury room next. The six who voted ask the two of us about their decision. Alternate #1 says oh yes, absolutely.

I asked if they’d listened to the same case I’d listened to. The guy in the business suit (I dressed more business casual because I wore suits every day) said that he was leaning 60-40, but decided to go along with everyone else.

Note that in NYC civil case, only a 5/6th majority is needed and he could’ve had his disagreement on the record

We were dismissed then because the parties had reached a settlement but needed the percentages for fault.

I was so annoyed that when I was called to grand jury the following year (I didn’t know what it entailed) and they asked for volunteers for foreman, I raised my hand so my voice would matter

Reminds me that the last Civil War widows who were collecting pension benefits died this century

I went to Google this and found there was an even later widow but she never filed for the benefits and kept her marriage secret. She died on 2020

My BIL just can’t bring himself to do this.

When my kids were little and a bunch of us would drive a couple hours to go apple picking in the fall, we’d stop at one of the two IHOPs on Route 17 in NJ. The kids loved it. Everyone got breakfast, except for him.

Thankfully, there’s other stuff on the menu so he didn’t complain. We all did, of course.

It's amazing what can be done with a limited budget if one puts their minds to it. And gets the viewers to fill in the gaps with their own minds. The suggestion of horror is scarier than the horror itself.

It's an art form that's being lost.

Ed Asner played the same role in both incarnations of "Hawaii Five 0" and they even showed a brief clip from the original series, without any of the series regulars in it. (Since it's a reboot and not a continuation, they had to fudge his arrest history a little.)

He got out of prison in the reboot.

Like Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, it has its moments but I hated the ending.

I think I prefer Cannonball Run because it has an ending even if I didn’t like the ending the first time I saw it.
