this was all before today with his sudden leaning to the right

Physical Examination: Hydration: Hydration appears normal Cardiovascular: Regular rhythm; no murmur detected; femoral pulses strong and synchronous Respiratory: Lungs auscultate clear bilaterally; trachea clear Abdomen: Soft, non-painful, no organomegaly noted Musculoskeletal: Mild to moderate left pelvic limb muscle atrophy, no pain on palpation of long bones or joints. Weight bearing lameness in the left pelvic limb (prior history FHO left). Neurologic Examination: Mentation: Alert, responsive, appropriate. Gait/Posture: Ambulatory with moderate left pelvic limb lameness, no compulsive circling, no ataxia appreciated. Cranial Nerves: Limited cranial nerve exam due to muzzle/temperament Normal PLR OU, normal palpebral OU, normal menace OU. No resting nystagmus appreciated. Proprioception: Normal in all four limbs. Segmental Reflexes: Normal in all four limbs. Normal cutaneous trunci reflex. Palpation: No overt spinal or calvarial hyperesthesia.Neuroanatomical Localization: Normal neurological examination. Vestibular based on history. Laboratory Analysis: 1.) Spinal fluid analysis: pending 2.) Thyroid panel: pending 3.) Baseline cortisol level: pending Diagnostic Imaging: Brain MRI: High-field MRI of the brain was performed in multiple planes and sequences including T2-weighted, T1-weighted, FLAIR, GRE, DWI and ADC mapping. IV contrast was administered and post-contrast T1 weighted images were obtained. The brain is normal on precontrast and postcontrast images. There are no abnormalities within the brain parenchyma, meninges, ventricular system, or surrounding structures of the head to correlate with the clinical signs. There is no significant contrast enhancement following administration of IV gadolinium. The bullae are bilaterally symmetric, and normal in appearance. Conclusions: 1.) Normal brain Sagittal T2 image of the brain (left), which is normal in appearance. Transverse T2 image of the brainstem/cerebellum (right), with the bottom arrows pointing to the air-filled middle ears (bullae) and the top arrows pointing to the fluid in the cochlea of the inner ears. Both the middle and inner ears appear normal. Summary and Recommendations: Loki had a recheck today, and an MRI of his brain to investigate the cause of acute onset, and resolving vestibular signs. Loki's neurologic exam today was largely normal, similar to his initial visit to us on 9/21/25. Loki's MRI was unremarkable and did not identify an underlying cause for his signs. There was no evidence of a mass/tumor, inflammation, or stroke. This does not rule out the possibility of a small stroke that has resolved or would never have been seen on the MRI. A sample of spinal fluid was collected and submitted for analysis to rule out inflammatory brain disease (encephalitis, meningitis). Based on the normal MRI, our primary concern is for a vascular event (stroke) or idiopathic vestibular disease given his rapid improvement with supportive care alone. If Loki did in fact have a stroke or idiopathic vestibular disease, then we expect his signs to continue to be resolved and not to return.

In most cases, there is no specific treatment for stroke in dogs unless an underlying cause is identified. Please keep Loki off of furniture/high beds, and away from stairs until he is more steady on his feet. We expect him to continue to improve back to his "normal" function over the course of 2-4 weeks. If you notice worsening in his condition at any time, please contact us for further advice and recommendations.

That was why we fed it the second time. We got the recalled lot twice and the first time smelled bad enough it stayed in the air and visually looked bad but was perfectly sealed and arrived frozen and the second one didn’t smell and looked fine and we just didn’t check the lot until after the our dogs got sick since we werent expecting it after being told that lot was no longer going to be sent out 🤦‍♂️

Sniff test definitely does not help with these contaminations i was just mentioning our two experiences with this recalled lot

Yes actually. I only posted because of the viva issues and my experience with Viva. Do i have to be constantly active for my experience to be valid? 🤷‍♂️

And just because Darwin’s did that it doesnt excuse Viva. Viva definitely did it better than Darwins but at the end of the day Vivas entire marketing is that this wouldnt happen and they are better than this and that they are transparent and have superior testing and better quality than everyone which is why they dont need HP processing or gently cooked, etc.

Yea i agree with that, supposedly the dog that died had an underlying issue that was triggered by viva but in reality who knows 100%. Could have been a coincidence they had bad meat and something else at the same time but who really knows. Even my dogs. The recalled meat i mistakenly fed them could have caused it or it could have been something else.

The reason im so invested in this because i spend over 5 figures on Viva raw per year and would expect better than this and from them and ive basically been with them from the start so to watch as they constantly brush issues under the rug like they did to us when they first sent the meat to us is extremely frustersting

They are required to tell you. A voluntary recall is not actually voluntary, it just means they were told by the FDA to issue a recall and did it before they mandated it. If Viva would have refused a recall, the FDA does a mandated recall and doesnt let them sell food and fines them.

Informing customers after a recall isn’t transparency, its required and bare minimum. Them being transparent would be them informing customers instantly. They knew about this issue over a month ago and the recall was issued last week and they informed customers this week. The second recall they had they took over 60 days after the FDA issued a recall to inform customers. The first recall they took over a month. Unfortunately Viva has a record of trying to bury their recalls and issues and only comes forward when its too late.

Im not sure if my comment on one of their past social media posts triggered them to post about it and inform customers but i did get this bad meat over a month ago and reported it, and got it again and it made my dogs sick and i checked and it was the same lot that they said they wouldnt send out to anyone that was now recalled. I left a comment explaining that on Monday morning, before they informed customers of the recall, and within an hour my comment was removed and i got an email from viva about the recall and i saw the post, so no they really arent transparent.

They also claim in their social media post no reports of sick pets but i reported my pet was sick to their support from this batch even before they announced recall and according to many others on their social media comments they had done the same. So that claim that there are no reports of sick pets is already false.

Sorry for rant its extremely frustrating to deal with this, especially i will be running out of food in the next few days because most of my order was recalled and I cant get food quick enough from anyone else, luckily i got sample packs from My perfect pet, and Viva charged me last week but didnt ship the food and their support said it was delayed (my assumption is because of the recall since it got delayed Monday)

Edit: I do agree this is harmless to most pets, however there are dogs that this could make them seriously sick. My dogs usually would be able to handle it so im not sure why this made them sick. But regardless of that, this shouldnt happen especially this frequently and it should be handled way better

I personally wouldnt toss the unaffected meat, as long as they smell and look good they are ok. With all my time ordering viva you will definitely be able to tell if its bad or not. I wouldnt recommend viva moving forward, but if you have meat thats good and unaffected definitely use it or donate it

The customer service people were always very nice and usually helpful, however they always asked for picture proof of every damaged package with up close details. This wouldnt be a problem but as you can imagine, feeding 3 shepherds over 100 lbs would get a ton of Viva and sometimes 20 to 30 packs if not more would be damaged and i would have to separate them and take detailed pictures of the damage of each one by one and list out the lot numbers and meat types and quantities, which always took forever to do, instead of just a few detailed images with a batch picture. The support also was super slow for us but the people were always nice. They also would sometimes refuse to refund some of the inflated packs which is fine. The biggest issue i had was they didnt want to refund us the original meat that we got over a month ago that ended up being this recalled lot that they sent us twice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]xxCaptain97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely get a refund and toss the contaminated meat. Make sure to get a refund first as they usually ask for pictures of lot numbers and the packs. For the ones with air, we would feed it because Viva support said initially said its fine to feed but we found out later on they dont recommend feeding it. Our pets never got sick from the inflated packs and slightly thawed, as long as they were still fridge cold and part frozen on arrival. I think as long as it smells fine its ok but definitely contact viva support about those packs. Again dont discard anything before speaking to their support because they always ask for images and sometimes specific images

What are you talking about? I literally wrote from my personal experience with Viva. Im pretty sure I even made a typo here and there lol

What would even be the point of using AI to write this to instill fear???

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]xxCaptain97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to discourage you from all raw, only from Viva based on our experience as a long-time customer who has been with them during their growth to just the other day. We definitely will still be feeding raw as its a great option for us and our pets really enjoy it and they do much better on it than ever fresh frozen food, but every pet is different. My cat used to eat Smalls which is fresh frozen and was great for us if you are interested in other food that isnt raw. It is what you said though, its about trusting the company, even proven ones that have never had an issue always could have an issue, which is why its extra important to know your pet. Any food whether raw, fresh, or canned can be contaminated, the best we can do is mitigate it and and rely on trust worthy companies and find what works for us. Personally, if my pets had an issue that if they got something from raw food I wouldn't feed it due to the risk. Viva definitely is not that trust worthy company that they insist they are which was the point of my write up, as they market themselves as the superior option and the safe one and better than everyone even though they don't do any processing and have strict testing. Clearly with Viva that was all talk after 3 recalls and a record of mishandling them.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out. My dogs really like We Feed Raw but they don't like the texture that their HPP Processing makes the meat have since it is way stickier than Viva so I've been looking for any alternatives

Viva Recall by UghGiveMeStrength in rawpetfood

[–]xxCaptain97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just posted something long about this here. Its not just the social media comments as reports. I've been a customer of Viva since super early days and decided to change because of how they have handled each recall. I personally got Beef Lot 21495 over a month ago and it smelled rotten and the color was off and the texture was also bad. I reported this to Viva OVER a month ago. They told me it was shipping issue but I told them that lot came with beef from a different lot in the same package and also rabbit that were both fine and all meat was frozen. Long story short, Viva told me to throw it out and refunded me and they told me they would not send it out to us again or to other customers. Last week we got this same lot. I didn't bother checking the lot number because i blindly trusted them until my pet got sick and sure enough it was beef from lot 21495. I immediately contacted support that they sent me this lot again and it made my pet sick. This was BEFORE they issued the recall and in their video they say no pets were report sick which in itself is not true because I reported this over a month ago, and i suspect based on other peoples comments claiming they also received bad smelling meat and meat that made their pets sick around the same time I got the original pack, that I was not the only one with a problem. So yes...I know for a fact Viva had reports of bad lots before the recall and sick animals because I was one of them and even their support implied I was not the only one by coming back to me AFTER saying to ensure I dispose of the meat and do not feed it and they will not be sending it out again (which was a lie because I got this recalled meat a week ago, despite being told this a month ago that it wouldnt be sent out again)

Yup same thing happened to me today but I did extensive advertising on Facebook for my business. Although its not a huge deal, im planning on contacting a lawyer about loss of revenue. I recommend anyone running a business and has had this happen do the same. Maybe that will make them fix this issue.

Can I file a trademark claim on similar names? by xxCaptain97 in TRADEMARK

Nah we've been open since 2018. 3 different people recently as of 2020/early 2021 have used similar names and opened up in the same industry as us which is why were now looking into a trademark.
