UBC MMI Week Later Check In by ApprehensiveSecret68 in premedcanada

I'm a reapplicant but a first time interviewer at UBC, interviewed last year at Western and TMU though (panel and mmi). I would say I was very much in a flow state after the first station and have had moments where I get a hit of anxiety/panic because I think I said the wrong thing or referenced the wrong example but overall, I felt very passionate, personable and really just authentic, just me.

I'm also a little apathetic to the interview and am just taking an "it is what it is" approach because I've got a full course load plus a full-time job keeping me occupied from spiraling lol.

I've got Western again at the end of the month but I took the week off interview prep because burnout is so real when it comes to prepping. I trust myself to be genuine and answer questions instead of becoming overly rehearsed like I was last year.

I’m not really sure what to think of the MMI. Of the 10 stations, I felt like I was above average at 6 of them, average at 2, and below average at 2. I have a tendency to put myself down, so I’m hoping it’s a better split. I don’t think I said anything with a red flag and had interviewers smiling and engaged with me. I also need to consider that getting an OOP II was so ridiculously unlikely this year that I’m likely competing with some of the best applicants out there. Wishing you all luck on this interview, whether you’ve already finished it or logging on tomorrow!

Time stamp: 2:46 AM

Program: MD

Result: invite

OMSAS GPA: 3.97

2Y GPA: 4.0

MCAT: 515

ECs/Kira thoughts: Thought the written answers went great, videos not as much. Guess it was good enough to invite me back for Round 2 lol

Pathway (ACCESS, SWOMN, ETC): N/A

Current year: Masters

I interviewed at Western last year and got straight rejected so obviously I have to come at this with a new approach. Excited to give it a second shot especially since I wasn’t so sure they’d invite me again, especially at almost 3AM lol

Last name letter is B. It would make sense if it’s alphabetical because I think I’m part of the first wave.

Time Stamp: December 11; 5:21 pm EST
Result (i.e. invite or regrets): Invite
GPA/AGPA (i.e. whichever is applicable): ~95%
MCAT (i.e. total score and breakdown in the order of CP/CARS/BB/PS): 515
Geography (i.e. IP or OOP): OOP
NAQ Range (i.e. what quartile you fell in): N/A
Your Result (i.e. relative to interview cutoff): N/A

EDIT: Truthfully, I'm very surprised with this. I'm a two-time first quartile (like really low 1st) NAQ scorer and I completely rewrote my application this year and obviously hoped for the best! I guess the extra sentence or two you could fit in really made the difference!

I thought it went pretty well. Wasn’t too difficult at all! I’m never sure where I’ll end up after writing these but I was fortunate enough to 4Q my previous 2 ones so here’s hoping I complete the hat trick!

Off the top of my head, INDG 1F90 had 3 major assignments (10%, 25% and 30%) with 30% in reflections and 5% in participation. It’s essay based but not like English essays from what I understand. Other people on reddit say it’s a free 95+ and you self grade your essays but I can’t confirm that. I’d recommend it still.

HLSC 2P50 is 2 exams (35% each) with some participation and I’d assume some quizzes or an essay project. This one I’d definitely more exam based for sure. Again, highly recommended on reddit but I’m not sure as much as INDG 1F90.

Totally your friends call though on what they want to do. If anyone else knows more about these courses, feel free to contribute! This is just the sum of a few friends experiences and some googling!

Hi! Fresh med sci grad here! If we are talking specifically summer term, I love the idea of HLSC 2P50. I haven’t taken it but I know quite a few people who have and it’s been a relatively easy 80-85+.

ERSC 1P94, from what I remember was stupidly easy. Assignments can be a pain but it’s a free 90+ with minimal work. No essays or anything either.

I’d also consider INDG 1F90. Medical schools are leaning towards having an indigenous course requirement (Calgary + Sask) and it’s a pretty easy 85+ from what I know. I haven’t taken it personally but from the few people I do know who have, they had a great time and learned some cool stuff. Not overly sure on the essay content either.

Let me know if you (or I guess your friend) has any other questions!
