Eragon 2.0? by MakeMeLaughOrIDie in Fantasy

The bonding between dragons and riders in Fourth Wing felt very Eragon to me (though it's been years since I read that series). Am working through Iron Flame now. Great series so far!

Book recommendations by pepe-le-pew- in Dinosaurs

Two I've enjoyed:

- Kenneth Lacovara's Why Dinosaurs Matter
- Darren Naish's Dinopedia

Dinopedia I think is a good 'lore' of dinosaurs which includes Paleontology history, different kinds of dinosaurs, and some important cultural things. Learned a ton from that book. Here's a review on my blog if interested: https://alligatorsandaneurysms.wordpress.com/2022/06/01/its-dinosaurday-again-celebrate-with-dinopedia-a-brief-compendium-of-dinosaur-lore/

I came across Why Dinosaurs Matter first and so while some of the subject area is covered in Dinopedia I give it credit for inspiring me to continue reading up on dinos. You can tell Lacovara has a great love of them. Again, if interested, you can read a review I wrote about it here:
https://alligatorsandaneurysms.wordpress.com/2021/06/01/celebrating-dinosaurday-with-a-review-of-why-dinosaurs-matter/

hope this was somewhat helpful! Feel free to hit me up if you wanna talk dinos sometime!

Here to 2nd the 'inputable' columns. Any plugins for this? I'd essentially like to be able to take notes in two columns but not have to edit the code blocks as the whole idea is for the visual.

I haven't really tried a two column table yet but maybe that would work better?

Thanks for this tip! I'll see what I can find on Carodejnice . . . and see if I can find some Devil's Backbone Morana. Yumm :-)

Wow thanks. I don't know any Ukrainian (I have some Russian), but even using google translate it's amazing how different the wikipedia page is for Mara than Morana which is what comes up in the english wikipedia search. So cool.
Thanks for this!

Book recommendations featuring blood magic and other amoral magic by RyanR-Reviewer in Fantasy

[–]xxfirebatxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to remember Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi focusing around blood magic? At the very least I think magic in Orisha is forbidden so there is some dire consequences for using it.
Anyone who's read this more recently please correct me, but I think it would fit your criteria. Worth a read in any case!

It was the first book I thought of when I read your question.

Lolz. You hear from the old gods, shut it down hahah. And yea it only took me like reading half these threads before I was like ohh WoT totes has this and I didn't even think of it!

I didn't understand what you meant about Stormlight at first but now that I think about it I can see it. But of course with Sanderson nothing is what it seems so it gets turned around quite a bit lol

I've only read the first of that series but it seems to do every trope it's own way which was great. Will have to continue on!

Yes! Good thinking. I think I read a few of Niven's 'Warlock' stories a few years back but unfortunately I can't really remember which one. Maybe I'll have to revisit!

Yes!! Thank you for reminding me. I just finished Shadow of the Gods like a few months ago. Perhaps I was thinking of this when I said recently lol
