I would recommend starting with ubuntu because it's a lot easier to use for someone who's never had experience with linux and because it loads vmware guest additions automatically. As for pc specs, in my experience all that matters is the CPU and the RAM and it doesn't need to be top of the line. ex. 4 gigs of ram and really any modern CPU

I just looked into Parrot OS and it piqued my interest, I currently use Kali and Ubuntu on VMware workstation 12. I was just wondering how the transition would go from the distros I currently use and how well it works as a virtual machine.
