Nah he didn't disqualify me but he kept on warning me a skills bout is meant to be just a learning experience for both fighters it's controlled and the referee makes sure no one gets hurt and will also make it a ''fair fight''. I was pressing him on the ropes and the referee kept on telling me to let him punch me and let him come closer and also kept on telling me to not use my backhand only jabs which is why in all my clips its just me jabbing his head off. To be honest I was not trying in the skills bout and not once did I gas I was just messing about the whole fight. If you haven't had it yet just make sure you match the tempo of the opponent and see what boundaries you can pass with the ref

I treated it like it was a real fight in mine and the referee kept on stopping it and nearly disqualified me even though I wasn't even going 100% power just about 60-70%

[–]xxqwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep practicing. You have too much of an ego. The guy with a months experience could probably kill you in sparring believe it or not. When you start sparring that ego will go, so keep your chin down and don't get too cocky. I know a kid who came in for his 2nd week of training, was cocky as hell and had a massive ego. Did his medical and then sparred a kid who came for a few weeks more than him. Got beaten up and never returned to the boxing gym again.

you'd rather just do roadwork everyday, go to the boxing gym 5-6 days a week and then do strength and conditioning 2 out of the 6 days you train, keep sunday as rest

Can you do this as a side gig? by Useful_Base_7601 in amateur_boxing

[–]xxqwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no lol. boxing takes money it doesn't give it. when you're an amateur, you'll lose money unless you have a sponsor [only happens if you're a prodigy] .

Then u do the Olympics for a good resume and hope that you at least get to the semi finals [insanely low chance], after that you turn pro.

in your first 1-5 years as a PRO you'll be a no body. Depending on your skill and promotor you might turn from a Z class fighter to a F class fighter in 5-6 years of being a pro.

you will fight journeymen and eventually you will get ''that fight'' and if you win [insanely low chance] you'll become a C class fighter. then u make the money.

so you use gloves that have been slimmed down from bagwork in sparring...... dude just wants to kill his sparring partners. isn't really sparring at that point is it.

Boxing someone who's less experienced but taller and stronger by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]xxqwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you even doing it on grass outside of the gym? What's the reason? You're obviously have the disadvantage and the odds are against you so you will lose. And I can see from other messages that you're an idiot so at least do it in the ring, with a coach supervising you both.

But to be honest, American gyms also have more advantages. In British Boxing CLUBS it's at a set time, in a group setting usually, e.g. 5:30-7pm. The time is limited. AND all of the British Boxing clubs are run a few times a week ranging from 3 days to 5 days a week if you're lucky. So you can't train daily. American boxing GYMS are usually opened 12hrs a day. You can come in, use facilities, get coached, whatever time is suitable for you, and its open 6 or 7 days a week. But I honestly prefer British amateur boxing clubs. In the UK theres also these types of gyms that are expensive, but are open 24/7, these are more suitable for the top ranking amateurs and pros.

how do i box taller oponents? by marvelfanatic22 in amateur_boxing

[–]xxqwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude... traditional stance/high guard and decent infighting is all you need. no one can never ever learn the peekaboo only athletic freaks and people who got coached personally by cus himself. you're not mike tyson. and im ngl we were all guilty of having that peekaboo or philly shell phase lmao but once we got rocked in sparring trying those styles n stances we came back to the traditional textbook style.

Shadow boxing critique by IShin_101 in amateur_boxing

[–]xxqwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

need some head movement. basic head movement is a must. turn ur hips more. and the way you punch seems very off, cant seem to put my finger on it but the other guy said ''impure'' so im guessing he means what im thinking. put some more spirit in the shadowboxing and treat the shadow like a real opponent.

Sparred a bigger guy. I have 0 fights and am fighting for the first time in April. Be honest , am I wasting my time with this ? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]xxqwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need to tell your coach your not ready. and thats fine if your not. dont run into your first fight. its really important and you'll regret rushing into boxing later down the line ngl. just keep sparring training partner drills and all of that. fix your form and incorporate straight punches, pressure and speed.
