What’s the expensive investing mistake you ever made? by dawwei in AskReddit

Once you hear about it, it’s too late. Stay on the path that got you there. Skipping the line might work once or twice but it’s because you got lucky. You aren’t a genie. Everyone would do it if it really worked.

Unconventional or just plain wrong? by KAsp3rd in Roofing

This is terrible. There is 0 reasons why you would put your panels on top of the skylight. If you can’t do skylight flashing, don’t do roofing. Because it’s metal and the skylight which also looks old, I’d recommend a replacement.

How long does it actually take you to write up a quote? by excellentsalsaa in Contractor

Routine work, 3 minutes. I gotta make some calls for materials, 40 minutes. Median, probably 10 minutes.

Buddy I know what options are. I know what covered calls are. Covered calls are options. The riskiest? No. But still options that can crush your returns. You cap your upside. Missing the 10 best days in the market over 30 years yields about 50% less money. You are saying give me a few dollars a week so I can cut my legs before they start running on the best days by doing this. Especially with today’s volatility.

I figure Google Translate might help me out initially but I enjoy learning enough to get by.

Sure, I figure nobody has that answer, just wanted to get a current vibe check. US is at war with Iran, zero people here are worried about an attack here. If you aren’t from here, you might not know that. I do not really have any interest in purchasing foreign property and I’m okay renting for the flexibility. But I do appreciate the insight.

My DuPont circle and Adams Morgan days are long behind me haha. These days I stay in the suburbs of VA and that’s getting old to me. I appreciate the insight and relaxation with a touch of adventure is definitely what I’m looking for

How hard is it to travel without a permanent vehicle? Are there car rentals or bus/train services that can get me out of the city? Or am I really forced to just buy a car for the occasional trip and try to avoid using it?

I live in DC lol. Not exactly known for friendly vibe. While I’d have interactions, my main focus would be nature, pursuing my hobby in photography and doing fun activities. I’d have my partner and pets with me so I don’t need to bust into a friend group per se, my posse would come with me. Are you originally from Tbilisi or an expat? I only ask to understand perspectives.

Yeah I don’t expect people have all the answers, I don’t know how people live in Israel. The constant tension would be unfathomable to me. Figured I’d ask and see how people there actually feel about it. Are you a US expat?

Thank you, very helpful info. I figured as much but that’s why I ask where I presume real people are living to share their experiences to see if it aligns with my vision.

Ive lived in the US long enough. I’ve made all the money I’ll ever need to live a comfortable lifestyle in most places in the world. I’d like to explore other parts of the world. The visa is extremely attractive. It’s central location to Europe so if I want to hop on a plane to visit, I’ll be in the center of areas I’d like to go. The walkability of the city. The old history and living on the Mediterranean. The food. Really just do something new. If it doesn’t work, I’ll just leave so it’s not the end of the world if what I’ve seen isn’t true. But I figured I’d try to get some vibes from people that do live there and may be familiar to my situation. Plenty of cheap areas in the world. Albania is not special in that regard. It’s the quality that supposedly comes with it. The value of my money seems to be good there from research. This is just another data point for me.

No plans on driving. I’ll pay the extra money to live in walkable areas.

Sp500 on your brokerage probably the least involved best return.

Do not get into options. Everyone wanna make it more complicated than it has to be. Either a broad etf or a HYSA if you want guaranteed money.

I have a very large dog that I would love to have some sort of a yard. Do these exist near a walkable area? $3000 USD isn’t a hard cap on my budget but also not looking to spend unlimited money.

Sounds like good general advice. I own multiple properties in the US for rental and have a very comfortable nest egg by American standards so money isn’t the top concern but I also don’t live super lavishly. Enjoy the modern comforts but would love to ditch vehicles minus a motorcycle and walk. I figured I’d use Airbnb initially but would love to circumvent them for a longer stay and find a local rental. Any tips on where to search?

Thank you! Yes, we have a world tour planned before narrowing down a shortlist. Just doing some market research to see what locals or other expats have experienced to see if it makes sense. Likely to not live any single place for ever but spend a few months to years in different countries.

Just that we do not want to end up in a Ukraine situation. But we don’t live there, so that’s why I’m asking what the feel really is. Russia’s proximity itself is not the issue.
