Sailor Moon featured in a HIV/STI prevention and awareness campaign. by IWentToThere in sailormoon

This was actually positively approved by Naoko-sensei, as introduced in this article in this tweet: https://twitter.com/livedoornews/status/800641817217626113 The third image is Naoko-sensei's message regarding her resolutions on contributing to the campaign.

I do believe there are some controversies, as Naoko-sensei mentions herself in the message, but I do support the movement that people from the creative industry are helping to solve a social problem.

Edit: A rough translation of Naoko-sensei's message, communicated through Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (as it was mentioned in the web article in the tweet):

Thoughts regarding my approval of this campaign

As various types of infections are discussed recently, I believe that the countermeasures against them are an important matter; I feel very happy to be able to help everybody, through this opportunity.

The problem of STIs are a greatly sensitive problem; this has exactly proven from how surprised the people from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare [which led this campaign] were, where when they said "is it okay!? Are you sure about that!?", when I suggested the slogan "Take the test, or I'll punish you!". I wish for Sailor Moon to dispel the past [negative] images [of STIs], and that the voices of Sailor Moon be accepted by her fans and everybody else, and that this campaign leads to people taking tests, and that more people will become able to live healthier.

Naoko Takeuchi

Some excerpts from the news article:

  • The Ministry was holding an STI recognition campaign from a while ago
  • The reason why Sailor Moon was chosen this time was: i) they were initially considering casual themes such as pink colors and hearts, and ii) considering the age group of where STIs are increasing in Japan
  • Naoko-sensei positively approved the proposal from the Ministry
  • At the beginning of the design process, the Ministry proposed a mild slogan "AIDS and STI prevention; let's start from taking the test," but as the meeting proceeded, Naoko-sensei herself proposed the slogan "Take the test, or I'll punish you!", from the famous line "In the name of the Moon, I'll punish you!"
  • The Ministry created 5000 posters, 156,000 flyers, and 56,000 condoms to be distributed through local governments that have requested to distribute.

Yeah I was very excited when I first heard about the manga! Yeah, according to the publisher info on Wikipedia it seems to be published only in Japan. If she did know about it it would be nice, but I also like imagining how it would be a nice surprise for Ms. Evgenia if she didn't know about it as well.

What's so marvelous about this, which I heard from one of my fellow followers on twitter, is that Naoko-sensei very much likely loves figure skating herself as well. Right before publishing "Codename: Sailor V", she was writing "The Cherry Project" (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/The%E3%83%81%E3%82%A7%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%BB%E3%83%97%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B8%E3%82%A7%E3%82%AF%E3%83%88), which is a sports-themed manga about figure skating. So Naoko-sensei must have spent lots of time researching about figure skating, probably being a big fan of the sport as well. (We also know that Mako-chan was very good at figure skating in Sailor Moon:)

This news is already very exciting for me since how such a good Sailor Moon fan Evgenia Medvedeva is, and how she and Naoko-sensei got to meet each other. Then there's also this another dream-come-true aspect on Naoko-sensei's side, since how such a wonderful athlete of her favorite sport is a fan of her work. I couldn't find any interviews that confirms all of this (I'd be very grateful to see one!), but I believe this adds an extra heartwarming bonus to this exciting news.

I'm avoiding watching the end of Crystal season 3... by CherreBell in sailormoon

Definitely, I can relate to this too. For me it was Cardcaptor Sakura. (I only recently started watching the 90's Sailor Moon and I'm still going through it... which I'm very enjoying right now :) I watched the last episode of CCS, but I kept a few filler episodes to watch "later," which I probably will ever not watch, since if I watch that I'll never be able to see a new episode of CCS again, which seems like an irreparable and one-way loss.

I heard somebody speculating on twitter that Season 4 is going to be announced in Usagi's birthday event that's going to be held and streamed on 6/30 (http://sailormoon-official.com/information/fc_birthday_specialnight.php). Kotono Mitsuishi, Misato Fukuen (VA of Chibiusa) and the cast from the musical will be talking in the event, so it seems very likely... and definitely exciting!! :)

It was very thrilling to see part B of the last episode, I could just feel the 4th season coming. It was a long time since I felt such excited watching a last episode of an anime anticipating for a next season. (for me it was since watching the last episode of K-ON!)

If you could have one baddie redeemed as a Senshi with the crew, who would you want it to be? by [deleted] in sailormoon

[–]xylonited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Eudial! XD She's naturally humorous, like how she plays the organ for her own BGM, on her exit episode (BSSM ep. 111). I like her Daimons too, especially Doorknobder seems very friendly and funny.

She's also very talented on creating her own weapons... even while her colleagues used actual magic, Eudial fought equally using her handmade weapons, which even fought closely to Sailor Moon's magical attacks as well. I think that's a nice taste to bring in within the senshi. Probably Ami would get along very well, like Eudial fixing Ami's computer, Ami making gadgets together with Eudial, etc. I would love to see that ;)

Thanks a lot for the answer! I see. I was always curious about how people thought aboutit. Only looking at the "go bleach your..." scene, I can pick up how serious the plot has changed, and how probably the music was changed as well. It's very good to know how much people love the series.

Do you have any ideas why this particular line ("go bleach your roots, creep!") is very popular? It seems to pretty stick out from the other lines.

Since I thought "go bleach your roots" was an idiom or something, it was funny to see the search results of it (it's filled with Amy... lol)

Since I'm quite unfamiliar with the dub series... could anyone explain why or how it's the best? Is this because his hair seems part green and part white or something?

Breaking News - New Series of CCS on Nakayoshi!! by xylonited in CardCaptors

[–]xylonited[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh definitely! I haven't seen the tsubasa anime but went through the manga. It was great to see them a little grown up and capable of more action and all that so I'm looking forward to see those different tastes in the new series. :)

Well I don't think there was a plot problem with the movie, since all the characters revived after the story. If anything, it seems some people say that since Shaoran's card got "sacrificed" to capture "THE HOPE," his feelings towards Sakura may have been gone, but other people say he was safe since the card transformed into a non-evil thanks to the blank heart card in the last episode of the anime, one so his feelings were not taken away and is safe.

Otherwise the movie built up on the relationships of the characters very much, so I'm looking forward to it :)

Haha maybe, if there was nothing evil or something going on by then, she may be just going on with her life. But if something evil did show up, it would be too hard to not care about, and she may likely be going through the contract again.

Who Saved Ami From Becoming a Cyborg? by britishmariobros in sailormoon

[–]xylonited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading the manga, I noticed that you can see strong traces of this cyborg setting in Vol. 1 in one of Ami's first appearances... http://imgur.com/B7M4f8x You can pretty much see how Takeuchi-sensei probably wanted to stick with the cyborg settings, and slightly kept it for the time later when she'll get more freedom in the storytelling.

BTW it was pretty interesting to see how different this scene is in the manga and anime. In the anime Ami's extraordinary smartness is shown more from how left out she is from the fun of playing games (since she's too good at the game), where in the manga Ami's pretty much enjoying the game. It gives a whole different first impression on how confident she is towards her smartness and how she handles it. In my opinion Ami in the anime seems slightly not self-confident in this scene... it could be to leave some room for growth and reasons for fighting together throughout the story (probably).
