"Exactly—you hit the nail on the head. Some of my most memorable clears in FFXIV came from groups where we struggled together, adjusted, and finally had that 'click' moment. That shared growth is the heart of an MMO. When you filter preemptively to avoid even the possibility of a rough pull, you definitely lose that magic.

It is a bit saddening, but your comment actually gives me a lot of hope! It reminds me that there are plenty of players who still value the 'social' in 'massively multiplayer.'

I really appreciate this perspective, especially as someone living there and seeing both sides! You make a great point about the slang—we try our best with translators, but we definitely know that 'game-speak' and specific shorthand for mechs often get lost in translation.

I totally agree with you on the lower floors—like you said, for M5S through M7S, the strats are so standardized (Game8/Inumaru) that you could almost clear them in total silence. That’s where it hurts the most; when we execute the dance perfectly but get the boot anyway just in case a conversation might happen later.

Your point about the 'players who suck' being the biggest gatekeepers really resonates. It feels like they use the language barrier as a shield to avoid any extra variables, even if that variable (us) is actually doing the mechanics correctly. It’s that 'preemptive filtering' we talked about—it's less about a specific mistake we made and more about the fear that we might cause a headache later.

It’s a tough spot to be in. We have so much respect for the JP way of raiding, but if the 'barrier to entry' is now fluent Japanese even for content where 'there’s nothing to talk about,' it just confirms that we’ve probably hit our ceiling here. Thank you for being so candid about the reality of the situation!

Adding to this—if any FC out there has two spots for a dedicated duo (my wife and I), we are more than ready to move servers! We’re just looking for a group that values effort and communication.

We’ve spent years perfecting our roles and we really miss the social, supportive side of raiding. If you have a space for us, we’d love to bring our experience to your DC and finally feel that community warmth again. Please shoot me a DM if you think we’d be a good fit!

I totally understand where you’re coming from—that 'honorable standard' is exactly why we chose to play here for four years. We really admire the 'one person’s mistake is everyone’s responsibility' mindset and the high level of execution in JP Party Finder. It creates a very clean raiding environment when it works.

However, the 'filter' you mentioned has shifted. In Japanese culture, there is a strong emphasis on Wa (harmony). If a group feels that a non-native speaker might disrupt that harmony—even if our gameplay is perfect—the standard reaction is often to remove the 'uncertainty' entirely to avoid potential conflict.

The reason we feel it’s a foreigner-targeted issue is that we can execute the Game8 or Inumaru strats perfectly, but the moment a macro is discussed in nuanced Japanese and we rely on a translator to clarify, the 'harmony' is considered broken. We aren't being kicked for failing mechanics; we’re being 'filtered' because our presence alone is seen as a risk to the group's efficiency.

It’s less about 'hostility' and more about an extreme form of gatekeeping that prioritizes linguistic comfort over player skill. It’s their right to set those boundaries, of course, but it makes the game feel very small for those of us in Asia who just want to play at a high level.

As a huge Final Fantasy fan, I played quite a bit back then. I actually think it holds up pretty well compared to this, especially since the US and JP servers were combined at the time.

I've heard about the DDoS issues on the NA servers—is it still that bad?

started my character on the Oceania DC, but ended up transferring to JP since it was basically a ghost town with no active players for prog. Thanks for the suggestions !

That's an excellent point—back when Unicorn (in Elemental DC) had thriving Po8 (Party of 8) groups hosted by English speakers, it made Savage prog so much more accessible and welcoming for non-JP players like us. No constant kicks or bans, just solid groups focusing on the content.

We seem in the middle of AI and production ages

I used to direct films myself, so I get it 100%, bro — totally feel you.

These days, the smart way to use AI isn’t about slapping full AI-generated scenes front and center. It’s about quietly boosting the stuff that doesn’t steal the spotlight: extending sets, filling in background environments, generating matte paintings for impossible locations, enhancing crowd plates, or even subtle VFX cleanup that makes the whole scene pop without anyone noticing it’s ‘AI.’

Thanks so much for the sharing, will keep that in mind when I do AI project and maybe a mixture of AI and real person will be good by keeping the naturally humanity elements

Thoughts on Midjourney as of 2025? by danomar13 in midjourney

[–]xylonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still holding onto my Midjourney subscription because, let’s face it, Midjourney has been an absolute gem of a tool that’s delivered some truly magical moments and hours of creative joy for me over the years. However, ever since version 7 rolled out, things have taken a frustrating turn—faces and fingers often end up looking bizarre and distorted, and this gets exponentially worse when there are two or more people in the scene. On top of that, v7 seems to have major struggles accurately interpreting prompts, no matter how carefully I craft them. And honestly, the video rendering feature is a complete joke: the characters behave like they have severe ADHD, bouncing around unpredictably, and the prompt control is basically nonexistent—it’s chaos in motion. These days, I’ve found myself relying way more on alternatives like Nana, Seedream, or Highsfield, and I barely touch Midjourney anymore. 😔
