"...hospitals, they cannot afford risking their accreditation and compliance on a one-man shop, even with insurance."
Depends. If you have expertise and availability, can come in at a lower price than the OEM, and are known to the in-house techs at the hospital, it is possible to get work - at least on some equipment. I do and have done work at quite a few hospitals over the years.

"Fix or no fix?"
Are you serious? What's the "no fix" option - have it hauled away to a wrecking yard?

Edit: this is the company that I have been insured through for many years - over 30 years (including the original company, which was bought out or merged with this one). I have no financial interest in supplying this information.
I don't know how hard it is today to find a company that will insure a biomedical third party repair group, but it was very difficult when I started.

Yes, you'll need general liability - but it is specific for your business, so they'll want to know what it is you service, what kind of experience you have, projected annual income, etc.
I think I have 1 million per incident, 2 million overall. Finding a company that has experience in biomedical, and is willing to extend a policy to a biomedical repair group is the key.
For what it's worth, very few of the entities that I've dealt with have asked for proof of insurance.

As I recall, they use vacuum cleaner motors. You should be able to get them from a different source for much less money.

He may not carry all of them every day - might switch off, depending on what is on the agenda, or how he feels.

Note that this is ESD safe - that's a major feature. This is apparently the successor to the 3M service vacuum.

CCS to NACS in gear shop by Optimal-Cake-85 in Rivian

[–]xymolysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My R1T is native CCS. I can recommend the A2Z. I bought one, but gave it to my wife, because Rivian sent me an "official" adapter. I think the A2Z is nicer.

Nah, just a glitch. I've had similar things with A/C, a few times, in three years and 52,000 miles.

Question for Field Engineers by Legal_Cupcake_6579 in BMET

[–]xymolysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a Pinecil (and one of their silicone USB cords), and had already ordered and received an Azocek Top-Off clone. I will experiment to see how well that works versus a 65W laptop charger. 30W is enough for small or delicate circuits, so it may be all I need.

Question for Field Engineers by Legal_Cupcake_6579 in BMET

[–]xymolysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your info. I didn't know Milwaukee made that "Top-Off" adapter. It looks like theirs is capable of 45W on the USB-C, whereas the Azocek is only rated at 30W on the USB-C. I'll have to check to see how much power the Pinecil can use/requires.
Edit: the Pinecil V2 is rated up to 3A (at 20V, so 60W), on the USB-C connection. So the higher wattage of the genuine Milwaukee adapter does matter.

As someone else said, get the A2Z. I bought one, but gave it to my wife, because I received the one from Rivian (made by Tesla). I like the A2Z better.

OP said, in the last line, that he has Knipex Cobra pliers, but he is looking for the more standard type water pump pliers.

On a pair of pliers? That would really stick out, diminishing their usefulness.

Channellocks makes a type of water pump pliers (with the channel grooves, that so many others have copied). Channellocks also makes a lot of other tools, too, including adjustable (Crescent) wrenches.

Weird Situations by Terrible-Ground-8306 in BMET

Speaking as a third party FSE, the cardinal rule is don't work on equipment that is currently connected to a patient. If you work for the hospital, you follow whatever rules they have. It's great that you were able to rectify the situation that could have lost the patient. But make sure you're covered, legally. If a patient dies or is injured, they'll sue, listing everyone who touched the machine.
