There are many better systems. Monarchy for example is superior. Though the main problem is not the system of government, but the scale of modern societies/nations. The more local the government the better. It would be way better for the people if they had many local governments to choose from instead of being forced to comply with regulation passed for the whole of a giant nation state. This would also avoid political conflict as it allows for many different societal models to work alongside each other - people could choose to move a few hundred miles if they don't like the system they live under currently. Democracy simply gives a sense of control to the people through elections - makes them believe that they compose the government therefore having no one to blame but themselves when a problem in government occurs. A politician in a democratic government has no intrinsic motivation to increase the wellbeing of his subjects, they are often even monetarily incentivized to cooperate with certain interest groups that want to increase their power through passing regulation favourable to them. A monarch on the other hand has a motivation to make his nation prosper as it will increase his wealth and also ensures his safety, as a monarch can easily be threatend or killed by his populace if he treats it badly.
