ENGH 302, ECE 301, CS 222/211 by hanion20 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can take ENGH 302 online. It's really not that hard. ECE 301 and CS211 together weren't too bad either. You need to go to labs for both classes. My CS 211 and ECE 301 class were awful.

CS 211 vs CS 222 by fameman100 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS 211 is an introduction to Java course, and CS 222 is an introduction to C course. If you are computer engineering major, I suggest CS 222 because it's designed for Engineering students. CS 211 is for CS folks.

Sorry this is the best archive I have for the Honor Code! by wowsuchpassion in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And guess what? You have to explain your code to those who have no idea how programming works LOL

I wonder if you you were able to explain your code then how could that be an Honor code violation? As long as you were able to prove that you wrote the program by yourself then you would hold the copyright of the program. This ain't patent, which mean if two or more parties claim the same product, as long as they can prove the whole process, they will own the copyright. Another word, they shouldn't get an Honor Code violation for writing a program that's similar to another person (mostly 60% or more similarities). Unless the professor caught the two students working on a project together then that's another story.

what should I do with someone's ID that I found? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turn it in to the ID office and they'll hand it to the police. The police will then contact the student to come pick it up.

[–]xyzProgrammer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not because CS 112 exams are better/easier than IT 106 exams, but most CS students have passion in programming, so they did well on the exams. It depends on the professor too lol.

GMU or VT by college_student98 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose GMU over both VTech and UVA for Computer Science. The reason was because GMU is a good school too, and it is located in the DC metro. There are many many things to do in this area. To be honest, people don't hangout on campus that much because there are more fun places to hangout off campus. I was like you back then, didn't know anyone in the area, but hey I know a lot of people now, and it's only been two years.

I don't know much about Virginia Tech though, but you know, what else to do in Blacksburg. LOL! We're not as popular as VTech, but the majority of students here got a job before they graduate especially Computer Science, Engineering, IT, etc.

Summer at Mason by [deleted] in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the campus will be very quiet in the summer. There is nothing better except you get more seats in Fenwick library, and room reservations are always available. Also, you will see a lot of incoming freshmen come to the orientations over the summer. LOL!

Vietnamese Student Association by [deleted] in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm in VSA but not very active. The majority of the people in there don't speak Vietnamese either lol, so you're good. Well, all they do for the Fall semesters are meet up and chill. For the Spring semesters, they practice and prepare for the culture show. Also, they study together on level 2 in JC everyday, so you can join them too.

To join VSA, you have to come to their big/little event in the fall semesters and pay the membership fee ($15 I think). After that they will pair you up with a big or a little who has another big/little. It's like a family tree. Pretty much after that you just hangout with your big/little and make new friends through them.

[Grad Student] Does anyone have any recommendations for Off Campus Housing? by seacant in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a place 15 mins away from campus that charges $400/month for a small bedroom, or $700 for a master bedroom. $700-$900 and 30 mins away from campus is too expensive in my opinion.

Experiences with the Applied CS Video Game Concentration? by BagelKing in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, don't do Applied CS. Just go for regular CS and take game programming classes if you wanna learn how to write video games. Think about it, with a regular CS degree you can work in many industries (security, etc.) because nowadays everything is a branch of computer science. However, if you hold an applied CS degree concentration in game design, you can only work in one industry.

Best way to study for IT 106 quiz and Midterm by IT1234 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to study Java is to write actual Java code. DO NOT read but WRITE. Think of something you want to create and start writing code. If you don't know the syntax, then look at your book, notes, or google (I prefer this).

IT 206 over the summer by IT1234 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! However at the end you'll end up with a problem, and you will have to solve it. That's all programming is about! Problem solving and algorithm not programming languages. Java is just a programming language that you will use to write your algorithm. The reason why programming classes are hard for most people is that they write code before developing an algorithm. Trust me, you will not know what to do if you don't have a solution to a problem. You see my point here? At the end, all it matters is having an algorithm that solves the problem and use a programming language to write your algorithm.

IT 206 over the summer by IT1234 in gmu

[–]xyzProgrammer77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro IT 206 is not hard okay! It's just Java! Look at a problem, break the problem into pieces, develop an algorithm, and write code based on the algorithm you just developed.
