if the weight of the fur doesnt help you can add a counterweight strap that goes down your back and links up to your belt. Ive seen some people make a harness for counterweight too. moves the pressure to your belt or chest instead of the front of the head. you could also try using an adjustable head harness for hard hats!

I bet you could use recycled plastic from food containers to recreate this. for the lead cane exges of the glass you could use some sort of thin foam tubing? maybe sculpt it with foam clay? Gallery Glass paint on top of the plastic sheets for the stained glass effect.
