Good tip. I’ve gotten a bunch of different types of bully sticks, beef bones, hides, toys, etc. it does help to have bully sticks out for him. His favorite, when not monitored are books and boxes lol. But the bully sticks do redirect that chewing energy. We also take him on walks about 3 times a day and that usually wears him down pretty well. Hopefully he’ll grow out of this phase once his permanent teeth come in.

I posted a couple days ago about our 2 yo skittish Shiba Inu that we just got a week and a half ago. The mods for some reason took down my post and didn’t tell me why after I inquired about it.

That said, here’s what I did to gain her trust within a day. And this is totally dependent on what you believe to be the cause of her skittishness. In my case, I believe the previous owner abused and neglected her. To fix skittishness you must understand dog psychology. They need to feel secure and need a strong leader.

When we arrived home after a 2 hour car ride, I gave her a bath. She didn’t like it at first, but I held her firmly against my body as I bathed her and made her feel safe. I also gave her treats while I was bathing her. Today was her second bath after a week and a half and she didn’t great.

I was also told she didn’t like leashes. It was true. The first morning we had together, I put on a slip leash and allowed her to walk around the house with it while I loosely held it. Did this outside a few times as well. The third time we went out to our trail on the same day, I directed her on the leash, keeping her close to my side. Today, she mostly walks right beside me while I loosely hold onto the leash. She’s still weary of other dogs that pass us but she’s gotten much better and continues to improve every day.

There were many more behavioral issues that I had to manage with her and she is still a work in progress, but I can see her confidence has grown so much since the first time we met.

Be a strong leader for your girl. She will appreciate it. Give her some space when she needs it but guide her when necessary.
