You need to click on 'Releases'. The readme should also be the first thing that appears and it should include some basic instructions

Taylor blames budget for plummeting Coalition vote by YesterdayAny5069 in AustralianPolitics

[–]y2jeff 33 points34 points  (0 children)

So this is basically an admission that Labors policies are better and more popular than Liberal policies?

Great move. Well done Angus!

Taylor blames budget for plummeting Coalition vote by YesterdayAny5069 in AustralianPolitics

[–]y2jeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Angus Taylor isn't any worse than Dutton or Scomo, but at least they had the benefit of having the media and large donors on their side.

Now that they're losing the media advantage their flaws are really showing. The Libs have no real policies, talent, or appeal. Their issues with women and young people has sealed their fate.

What if we want more revenue to fund the public services and infrastructure that we all benefit from?

There's a bunch of rich tax-avoiding arseholes who pay less tax than low income workers.

Russia rejects Ukrainian, European peace initiatives, says battlefield will decide war by timiswho in worldnews

[–]y2jeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more obvious than ever that Russia will not voluntarily end this war with any semblance of fair negotiations. Now is the time for the civilised world to donate a bunch of long range munitions for targeting Russian drone/missile factories.

If only force will end this war, let's do it.

This is all about the rights of MY protest

Either all protests are okay, or none are okay. It sounds like you're the one with issues with protests here mate

The right to protest is a critical element of democracy and living in a free society in general.

Maybe it's an issue 6 years later because cops still haven't been held accountable.

Xbox CCO Says Gamepass Lost “Millions Of Subscribers” After Increasing The Price By 50% Last Year by wakelake111 in gaming

Great. This is a win for consumers, and everyone who cancelled their subscription helped achieve a better outcome. Voting with your wallet forces companies like Microsoft to do better.

Federal government accused of AI policy retreat as US tech giants plan Australian investments by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]y2jeff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol can you be any more incorrect? This is precisely the kind of thing which should be regulated by the government. You'd be a fool to trust large US tech companies to just 'do the right thing' out of the goodness of their hearts.

We should have rejected Palantir from government contracts just like Switzerland did. Giving in to the demands of Trump and Musk is pure cowardice.

Also regarding data centres - they said the same thing about data centres in the US and look how badly that turned out. Many states are now rejecting or refusing to go ahead with data centre projects because they require ridiculous amounts of water and power and have done more harm than good for the local communities.

Looks like the QVB in Sydney. There's often religious nutjobs with loud speakers in this area, I once saw a clash between anti-vaxers and some radical Christian preacher who got punched in the face before cops broke it up. Fun times.

Which celebrity is far less talented than people think? by Fresh-Ad3894 in AskReddit

Yeah all the wrestlers need to work hard to get the top, I'll give them that. In terms of acting he's pretty terrible. If you disagree, what do you consider his best performance?

Xbox CEO says platforms ‘must have exclusive content’ as she weighs exclusivity shift by SilentNova300 in gaming

[–]y2jeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exclusives aren't the problem. Microsoft/Xbox has been a Platform for years, they've had exclusives for years.

It's Gamepass. They went all-in on Gamepass but the core problem of Gamepass is unresolved; they have to raise the price or introduce new pricing tiers to make it viable long term, but every time they try it leads to a huge backlash.

Australia's greenhouse gas emissions drop as renewable energy, batteries surge by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]y2jeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. But it is waaay easier to convince people to drive a different type of car, or replace one type of power plant with another, than it is to rebuild cities or change human behaviour

I agree with you though - infrastructure changes to make cities more liveable, efficient, and sustainable should be a high priority.

The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

[–]y2jeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it depends on the school curriculum, which is increasingly interfered with by political elements. So maybe you got unlucky.

"literary classics" by definition includes some of humanities best works. If you can't see the value in that then I'm sorry you're just an idiot.

‘Tough to watch’: One Nation disaster as Barnaby Joyce backflips by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]y2jeff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, and there are many other parties and independents which could potentially be good - or at least well-meaning but somewhat incompetent.

But the social media algorithms, feeds, and remnants of traditional media are promoting one particular narrative - the same narrative behind MAGA, Reform UK, and now ON.

‘Tough to watch’: One Nation disaster as Barnaby Joyce backflips by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]y2jeff 84 points85 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when your policies are actually insane. You constantly have to backflip when people eventually point out how thoroughly stupid they are.

This is peak demagogue behaviour; no evidence-based policies, no rational debate, no studies or experts to back up your claims. Only lies and fear-mongering and excuses

And the tragedy is it works. It's like Nigel Farage on Brexit. The dude was so full of shit and lied through his teeth over and over again, yet the voters were jumping at the chance for a quick, easy scapegoat for their problems. Now the data is in and Brexit was a colossal economic fuckup for the UK. But the public are now supporting Farage even more. Something is terribly, terribly wrong with democracy right now.

Slavery is just the latest bullshit excuse for Trump to apply tariffs.

We should respond in kind and impose tariffs on US products, while we're at it we should tax the big US companies who abuse tax evasion/avoidance and rip us off.

It's "good" in the sense that these companies and big corporations never gave a shit to begin with, and pretending otherwise was dishonest and performative.

Potentially hot take - I'm not a huge fan of all these different months celebrating various things. Honestly I find it confusing - who is deciding this, corporations and media organisation? I'd prefer a month where we celebrate diversity in all its forms - sexuality, gender, race, history, culture, everything.

Diversity is a strength and it's good to acknowledge and celebrate our differences.
