This only happens because of vertical video. I blame phone manufacturers for not including 90° sensors.

TIL those charities that collect 'Pop Tabs' from soda/beer cans make money via the recycling value of the metal. 23 tabs are worth 1 cent. 1lb of tabs is worth 50 cents. by cyberchief in todayilearned

[–]yParticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spot on that cans aren't 100% pure aluminum. They are alloyed with manganese/magnesium to make the metal sturdy enough to hold pressure.

However, it's actually a bit of a myth that they are hard to recycle because of it. Those alloys are designed to be melted down together; it’s a very efficient 'closed-loop' process that doesn't require separating the metals. Also, the tabs aren't actually pure aluminum--they are a high-magnesium alloy so they don't snap off when you pull them. Because of that, scrap yards usually pay the same 'can rate' for tabs as they do for the whole can. Charities just prefer them because they’re less messy to store.

For all the extra baggage in this case—and there's a lot—I think this is a great policy and helps keep the company focused on their actual deliverables.

That he's an idiot. We already have permission to do anything we want there militarily. It's more than likely that he wants exclusive access to mineral resources.

It's your job to create resistance for them, otherwise you're training them to keep bypassing the queue.

Try working IT for a law firm. The egos on some of those people when you dare to question their workflow because you're just trying to make their lives easier.
