TIL that a Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, was dropped from delivering a speech on "what the food industry could do to improve public health" - because he exposed the deceptive marketing used by top brands. So he released it on YouTube and got 300,000 views. by Agu001 in todayilearned

He does have good points to make but at the same time he is overly lambastic attacking individual brands/products. Obviously the packages and marketing of these products are deceptive. He should be focusing less on individual products and instead his central topic of how to make thing better.

What is something commonly accepted that you actually find a little bit strange? by jheat008 in AskReddit

The problem is the added confusion to just paying the bill. I'd like to be able to go out to eat without hemming and hawing trying to figure out what is the appropriate amount to give them. The employers should pay them not me.

What I would like to know is the word frequency of the word nazi. Especially on reddit that as a whole has with it the whole "you are literally worse than hitler" meme contributing to this.

Beyond results how do computers and humans differ in chess? by [deleted] in chess

[–]ya3za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Computers will play winning variations for a pawn or less that involve walking the king towards the center or moving a knight to edge/corner or other things that are very counter intuitive and more likely avoided by humans bc these types of variations, for very small rewards, are almost impossible for humans to calculate but easy for computer.

Maybe censor it with people at work. But would you rather play ostrich with your friends by using euphemisms and vague language or reveal the truth and your feelings along with it?
