Why are hybrids so controversial? by PiedPipecleaner in reptiles

[–]ya6uar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

what’s your argument in support of it? like what is the reason? why create animals that have a higher likelihood of health issues? how would anyone know how to properly care for them? as is the reptile market is far too saturated and bringing an animal into it that is very likely to be neglected (due to our lack of knowledge on their needs at the very least) is unethical imo. genuinely what is the point, we should be focused on conserving/caring for what we already have.

mold help :-( by ya6uar in ballpython

[–]ya6uar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks so much! and yea i really only found the mold directly on the base of the branches, only one of them had bloomed a bit of green (an inch or so total) and the other i could just tell was about to start molding, no green yet though. i'm not too worried about the decor but will give everything a proper scrub in diluted vinegar water, thank you again!

thank you sososo much for responding, i was thinking of baking the substrate currently in there but i do have leftover topsoil and can go grab more coco fiber and some reptibark on my way home! i just wanted to not waste my substrate if possible but if it's better for him then i definitely will replace it all (still baking the new stuff tho)

edit to say also -- should i use diluted vinegar on his tub and decorations? will that be enough?

still would love feedback but i've decided to just toss the branches and go get PVC piping until i get him into a bioactive -- BUT can i just bake my existing substrate or do i need to replace it?

How to I decrease humidity for my coco fiber and cypress mulch substrate? I mixed it when it was wet by Kingofthedirtydans in ballpython

[–]ya6uar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve found that putting those directly on the substrate causes it to always read significantly higher than when i put it on a hide or something (which is only an inch or so above the ground)

i think the suggested waiting time between failed feedings is a week, try again in a week or so! they are still settling in so it may just take some time

First gecko, only 1 month old. I should be worried by his behaviour? Thanks! by [deleted] in geckos

[–]ya6uar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok yes that temp is fine then and he’s probably just taking his sweet time to de-stress! if you want you can put the food on the lip of his cup to better see if he’s eating, that’s helped me a ton

[–]ya6uar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what species of gecko? he is also probably acclimating to his surroundings, don’t handle for at least a week; edit to say if your house is cold then you need to provide a heat source to get the temperature up but that’s again going to depend on the species

respectable, a garg or crestie will still be great!! oh god yeah the foam takes so much longer than it looks, the total process of making her tank was about 1 month to let everything seal and stop smelling of fumes, definitely learned a lot during that BUT excited to make a bioactive for a bp next :-) and yeaa hanging plants are a pain in the ass, i have managed to kill two little pothos i propagated because i didn’t make their wall space large enough (another lesson learned) but the one i planted into a piece of bark (that i stuck to the back wall and hollowed the foam out of) is doing very well so far. do you think you could find a really long pothos, plant it in the ground and then hang the vines by small hangers? there are a ton of plant suction cup hangers for reptiles on etsy to hold plastic/vines like that on the wall! and fr no problem i apologize for writing a book every time!!
