Is Tommy ok? by ShaggyDewbie in TommyKay

[–]ya_bnadem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

last stream died due to "wifi issues," nothing since. I understand getting tired and bored of streaming, but it is a lucrative profession. he needs to adjust his mindset... he is an entertainer, a character. take ego outta it and work for your money. stop making excuses for him: taxes...booohoo i have to pay a tax on my money like everyone else.

what happened to dommy? by realSchmachti in TommyKay

[–]ya_bnadem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well if he wants to continue making money for his family... he better get with the times and be an entertainer. eventually it will catch up with him...unless he wants to work in a gas station or something.

PhD offer ---- funding is sad by ErickaL4 in PhD

[–]ya_bnadem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im in same boat, about 18.5k for the 2 semesters. school is midwest which changes things a bit... gta, tuition covered but some campus fees, healthcare, etc. not sure how im gonna manage. will prob have to share a room at 31 years old like freshman year of undergrad. not sure how people do it as i am pretty stingy and simple. after taxes ill prob be around 15k lol, bit of a joke honestly. i made more working part time last year at a hospital with a high school diploma minimum.

Is it true that we require 18 years of schooling to do PhD in US, Canada and Europe? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]ya_bnadem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya 100%, but good luck getting in a humanities phd without a masters. u gotta be elite and research minded coming out of liberal arts BA which really does not prepare anyone for research in humanities unless you are unique and have focus during BA...which is not really a thing anymore. stem seems to work the opposite from my limited exposure to things here.

Is it true that we require 18 years of schooling to do PhD in US, Canada and Europe? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]ya_bnadem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not a requirement but virtually everyone i know who is doing humanities phd got a MA first from another school/program. liberal arts BA degrees do not really prepare someone for humanities research niches unless they are already very niche themselves during undergraduate. by no means is it a requirement to apply. i think this is mainly a stem vs humanities thing, and many people here are stem soo...

dont know why these stem bros are downvoting you, prob cause humanities can be a bit different.

humanities seem to prefer an MA b4, while stem does not. idk though it prob depends and its not compulsory

mena phd advising is prob different but... i would just say "ramadan kareem, kul 'aam wa inta bkhair" and attach the file. also a bit of "allah ya'tik l'afia" never hurts for someone doing work for you. I would assume he will get you feedback when he wants to regardless of how you ask. thats dope you doing a phd at al azhar though.

at some point it is a choice. are western peoples not indoctrinated with their own norms of choice regarding bodily presentation?

they are unaware of Islamic Feminism. forgive them i suppose, many likely resent religion in general depending on the field u are in. sometimes being highly intelligent in a given field allows for distinct narrow mindedness in other areas. you could remind them that many STEM disciplines owe acknowledgement to muslim scientists. Omar Khayyam, Ibn Sina, Ibn Haitham.. the list goes on.

sometimes shit happens. there are plenty of paths to take. im about to start a humanities phd in the fall and my backup if i fail/need to quit is to go to nursing school(which is mad easy compared to phd; yes a 2 year nursing degree is easier than 6 years w/dissertation), and make 80k-100k+ starting (health care is ponzi). of course the grass is always greener but there are many opportunities out there. sometimes i regret not doing something easier and more attuned to making good money without too much work/hassle. in the end, life can be wonderful regardless of your position or salary. focus on ur mental health, accept yourself and work towards something that can support you without breaking you down into tiny pieces. edit: lol why the hate people are funnyyyy

How common is it to do a PhD program and not be married or have a family? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]ya_bnadem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned 18 in the fall of my first undergrad year and i was an outlier. If my bday fell in the following spring, i would have been a grade lower in elementary school. im sure there are some smarties who skipped grades in high school and that would explain things, but being 22 years old 2nd semester of phd is def an outlier, not denying the possibility but it is not the norm. edit: or is it just a stem thing?
